Notice your bill jumping the second the cold weather hits?
A lot of people don't realise that most electricity retailers charge their highest rates between 4pm and 9pm.

That window also happens to be when most homes have the heater going, the kettle on, lights up and dinner cooking. You end up using the most power at the most expensive time of the day.

As of May 1, battery rebates have reduced under the current government scheme.

This isn’t a one-off change, the program is designed to step down over time, with further reductions already scheduled.

In practical terms, it means the same battery system now receives less rebate support than it did earlier this year.

Nothing else has changed, just the level of incentive available, which means that the upfront cost of installing a battery has increased.

If you’re considering adding a battery to your solar system, it’s worth understanding how these changes may impact your options moving forward.

As of today, May 1, battery rebates have officially decreased.

The incentive has dropped from 8.4 to 6.8 STCs per usable kWh, a reduction of close to 20%.

What this means:
• Lower upfront incentives on new battery systems
• Higher overall system cost compared to earlier this year
• The same system now delivers less rebate support

This is part of a scheduled reduction, with the next decrease set for December and continuing every 6 months through to 2030.

If you missed this, that’s okay. But it does mean the cost of battery systems will gradually increase over time.

If you’re already considering adding a battery to your solar system, it’s worth planning ahead so you’re not caught out by the next change.
