The Beechworth Community Battery project was featured by Pixii ⚡

This project is a great example of what community energy can deliver: improving local resilience, supporting renewable energy sharing, and creating more flexible regional energy systems.

Located at the historic Old Beechworth Gaol, the battery combines backup power, solar integration, and market participation in one smart system. And it’s just the beginning, with seven community batteries being rolled out across regional Victoria and Southern New South Wales.

What a time to be driving projects that help regional communities play an active role in Australia’s energy transition 🔋🇦🇺

Community batteries are already making a difference. And now we’ve got the data to prove it.

As Indigo Power’s community battery fleet grows from one battery in Yackandandah to seven across the region, we’re starting to see what community energy can really deliver in practice.

In his latest blog, Ben shares early operating data from two Wodonga community batteries: showing how they’re soaking up excess solar, supporting the evening peak, and helping nearly double the amount of locally shared energy in just one week.

It’s an exciting early look at how community-owned energy infrastructure can support local customers, strengthen local renewable energy sharing, and help manage energy costs over time.

We’re proud to be partnering with Euroa Energy and Taungurung Land & Waters Council to help strengthen energy reliability in Euroa.

This project is about more than energy, it’s about local collaboration and delivering long-term benefits for the community, by the community.

Congratulations to all seven groups selected for the Community Power Agency's Community Energy Incubator.

We're so excited for what’s ahead⚡🌿

And this is why we do what we do.

Projects like MYRT01 aren’t just about energy, they’re about people, resilience, and backing communities when it matters most. From powering a bushfire place of last resort to freeing up resources for local sport, it’s impact you can see and feel ☀️💪🏼

Curious about what the energy transition actually looks like?

🌱Start here.

Real data from a real home, exploring how shifting when you use energy can change costs, outcomes, and the role of the grid.

Thanks AusNet for listening to the community and helping us bring this project to life🔋

The Beechworth Community Battery at the Old Beechworth Gaol is a powerful example of what’s possible when networks and communities work together, turning a historic site into a hub for clean, local energy.

By storing rooftop solar during the day and sharing it when it’s needed most, this project is already making an impact for local energy resilience and affordability.

A great step forward for community energy 👏🏻

Indigo Power's Managing Director, Ben McGowan, recently joined the Solar Insiders podcast to share how mid-scale community batteries can play a critical role in strengthening regional energy systems, especially in the face of increasing climate risks.

From lessons learned during bushfires to building a more resilient, community-powered future, it’s a timely and practical conversation about where energy is headed.

🔋Two big days for community energy in North East Victoria 🔋
On Thursday last week we launched the Beechworth Community Battery, a special full-circle moment for Indigo Power. Nearly seven years ago our people-powered journey began at the Old Beechworth Gaol with a community solar installation, and it was fitting to come back to mark the launch of one of our biggest and highest-impact projects yet.

Then on Friday we headed to the McNamara Reserve in Myrtleford, home to the Myrtleford Saints Football and Netball Club to launch the Myrtleford Community Battery with the local club and community. Local sporting clubs are the heart of regional towns, and initiatives like this help them reduce energy costs while building resilience in the face of weather events.

Both batteries are supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency as part of Indigo Power’s Community Batteries for Energy Resilience project, Indigo Power's largest project to date.

A big thank you to the community members, partners and supporters who joined us across the two days and continue to back community-led energy solutions.

A special afternoon in Beechworth celebrating a big milestone for community energy. 🔋

Nearly seven years after our people-powered energy journey began with a community solar system at the Old Beechworth Gaol, we returned to launch the Beechworth Community Battery.

This project is the biggest and highest-impact initiative we’ve delivered yet, part of the Community Batteries for Energy Resilience Project funded by ARENA.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate: community members, partners and supporters who continue to make community energy possible.

This is what happens when communities come together to shape their energy future 👏🏻👏🏻

🔋Community energy is coming to Beechworth🔋

Indigo Power is celebrating the biggest and highest-impact project we’ve delivered yet and we’re doing it the way we know best: with our community.

The Beechworth Community Battery at the Old Beechworth Gaol, is the first installation in our $4.7 million regional energy resilience project.

Join us for a light BBQ, drinks, and a guided tour of the battery.

The system includes 99 kW of solar and a 340 kWh battery, sharing renewable energy with Indigo Power customers while strengthening local energy resilience.

The battery will also support critical community infrastructure during power outages and emergency events.
