Not just the city, it’s all of the big name op shops, vinnies and salvos are nothing but price gouging thieves who profit from free goods donated to them by the public

Anyone notice how op shops are getting more expensive nowadays?

Like someone posted how they saw a Kmart plate with chips in it for $12 (which the plate costs $1) and a mug for $8.

Op shops used to feel like treasure hunting. You'd find the cool $1 or $2 thing but nowadays it just seems like the op shop stuff is more expensive than just buying things brand new.

Gday legends! I haven’t been very active lately it’s been so bloody hot, no water on the gold fields make for hard prospecting, I haven’t been out on the creek for some time and I miss it dearly, a mate of mine has a private permission for us to check out so we will be heading out there as soon as possible, the area has the potential to hold some really good gold, chunky gold, there’ll be videos both shorts and full length videos so stay tuned for that in future, I’ve been out doing a fair bit of fishing this summer so here a big ol carp I got out on a mates boat 🎣❤️

Today, we commemorate 171 years since the Eureka Rebellion, a key chapter in the history of our nation's labour movement.

Miners who flocked to the Victorian Goldfields in the 1850s were subject to constant exploitation, threat of eviction, and police extortion. They were forced to pay excessive licensing fees and denied the right to vote.

On the 30th of November, 1854, the Eureka Stockade was constructed near the Ballarat goldfields. 500 miners burnt their mining licenses and swore an oath to stand in solidarity: “We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other, and fight to defend our rights and liberties”.

The 'Southern Cross' is now known as the Eureka Flag, a symbol of our labour movement. On 3 December 1854, colonial military forces assaulted the stockade, killing at least 22 miners.

Though the uprising was suppressed, the spirit of rebellion lived on and workers continued to fight for their rights in Victoria and across Australia. One of the witnesses to the 1854 Stockade was a young William Guthrie Spence - founding member and first president of the Australian Workers' Union.

The AWU remains the proud union of gold miners in Ballarat, and every year we remember this significant event in our nation's history.
