Carryback is more than a housekeeping issue. It can cost your operation safety, efficiency and uptime.

When material remains on the belt after discharge, it can build up throughout the conveyor system, increasing equipment wear, dust, spillage, maintenance demands and the risk of unplanned downtime.

A single product may provide temporary relief, but lasting carryback control requires a complete conveyor system approach.

At Martin Engineering, we assess the entire transfer point to understand how belt cleaners and transfer point sealing can work together to address the root cause. The result is a cleaner, safer and more productive conveyor system with:

• Reduced dust, spillage and manual clean-up
• Better conveyor performance and equipment reliability
• Improved uptime and productivity
• Lower operating and maintenance costs

Moving material is only part of the job. Moving the industry forward is what matters.

More than 30 years ago, Martin Engineering developed Foundations™ to share practical knowledge in helping operations understand the root causes of common conveyor issues, including carryback, dust, material spillage and unplanned downtime.

By sharing this knowledge through the Foundations book and training program, Martin Engineering continues to help raise the standard of bulk material handling best practices, supporting cleaner, safer and more productive operations across the industry.

At a coal operation in eastern South Africa, inadequate loading zone equipment was causing excessive spillage, increased maintenance and unnecessary downtime. Rather than applying a short-term fix, Martin Engineering worked with the site to identify the root cause and implement an engineered transfer point solution designed around the application's specific requirements.

The result was reduced spillage, lower maintenance demands and improved productivity, giving the customer the confidence to implement the solution across additional site transfer points.

That's the value of engineered solutions designed to solve the problem, not simply replace existing components. Problem Solved Guaranteed!

Belt cleaning is often treated as a housekeeping issue.

In reality, carryback can have a much broader impact on conveyor performance. Material that remains on the belt can accumulate throughout the system, contributing to increased wear, higher maintenance demands, material loss and reduced operational reliability.

Martin® Belt Cleaners helps address these challenges by:

• Reducing carryback and material spillage
• Minimising cleanup and maintenance requirements
• Protecting conveyor components from premature wear
• Supporting more reliable conveyor performance
• Helping maintain consistent material flow

Engineered for a wide range of bulk material handling applications, our belt cleaners help operations improve reliability while reducing the hidden costs associated with carryback.
