The pics below are of a clients property that was burnt out in the Yankees Gap fire, as is clearly visible they were left with many burn piles that weren’t built properly and didn’t burn, then they were left with these horrible messes scattered all over their beautiful property.
We were able to help clean up this mess and while doing so clear wattle regrowth that was out of control since the fires.
So why do we still prefer to stack and burn when undertaking hazard reduction clearing work…?
Well because simply mulching wattle and scrub doesn’t remove it completely leaving behind roots that regrow almost immediately!
This means you need to either use harsh sprays or continuously slash the regrowth.
How we do hazard reduction clearing is removing the entire tree… stump, roots, the lot! And by building proper burn piles without loads of dirt in them the pile burns away killing the seed and preventing regrowth.
We also fill in all stump holes and compact the disturbed soil to prevent erosion 👨🏼🌾😃
