Honoured to be Part of This Significant Project
Last week, we stood alongside ACHL to witness the official sod-turning for the Purrkanaitya Elders Village. 'Purrkanaitya, meaning "For All Elders', is situated near the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre on Kaurna country by the Sturt River in Bedford Park. This vital project will provide culturally appropriate housing for Elders, ensuring they have a safe and supportive place to call home.
Aboriginal communities have directly influenced the design, location, and economic opportunities, with 33% of the project’s delivery allocated to Aboriginal enterprises, subcontractors, and employment pathways for Aboriginal apprentices and trainees.
With land provided by Kaurna Yerta Aboriginal Corporation (KYAC) and funding from Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), SA Housing Trust, the Federal Government, Housing Australia and CHL, this meaningful build is now underway.
