Remote Solar Bore Pump & Tank Monitoring System

Coefase designed and installed a remote water management system for a cattle operation using solar-powered infrastructure.

The system included:

• Bore pump control
• Multi-tank level monitoring
• Remote telemetry and system visibility
• Remote irrigation control

We delivered:

• Automated bore pump operation based on local tank level sensors
• Remote start/stop control of the bore pump
• Remote irrigation system control from anywhere with network access
• Real-time tank level monitoring and historical level trending
• Reliable off-grid operation using solar-powered infrastructure

Outcome:

The client gained full visibility and control of critical water assets, reducing site visits, improving water management, and ensuring reliable water supply across the property.

Road testing the Coolmay EX3G-8100H-44MRT HMI/PLC all-in-one unit in a live control application.

Software used:

GX Works2 for PLC programming
V-Cool for HMI development

Initial setup required some work. On Windows 11, connection issues meant disabling certain security restrictions and installing a Coolmay-provided driver. Once configured, communication was stable.

Programming is broadly similar to Mitsubishi PLC structure, but the addressing and numbering system is different enough to require adjustment. HMI editing workflow is also slightly different but quick to adapt to after initial use.

Hardware observations:

Unit is mechanically solid and well built for the price range
No panel gasket supplied — must be sourced and fabricated separately
Be careful when mounting; use a torque screwdriver to avoid overtightening clamps
Terminal numbering on rear is difficult to read — marking every 5th terminal helped significantly
Input commons are shared, while outputs require grouped +24V supply per common section (approx. every 5 terminals)

Display notes:

Screen performs poorly in direct sunlight
Use dark background themes for outdoor visibility

Control performance:

Analog inputs performed well in testing
Pulse input configuration required additional setup due to differences in 8-bit/16-bit handling compared to Mitsubishi systems but IO responded fast enough to work as required.
Remote programming was tested but ultimately not used due to setup complexity; local PC access was more practical

After 6 months of operation, the unit has remained stable in service.

Overall: strong performance for the cost — approximately one-fifth the price of equivalent European or US PLC/HMI systems. Suitable for cost-sensitive industrial applications where minor setup trade-offs are acceptable.
