Copper thefts in the construction industry are not just an emerging issue; they have become a significant operational risk for builders across many fronts including the impact of delays in programs, increased premiums from insurers, and the damage to the reputation of the building site itself after the stolen material has been replaced.

The immediate financial loss from theft is certainly a concern. However, the larger losses come through subsequent issues, which may include program delay, trade rework (including delays or additional costs), higher premiums from insurance providers due to past claims history, as well as potential exposures under contracts if the site cannot secure the area where the theft occurred.

In addition, tender submissions account for this type of theft and most sites do not implement measures to protect themselves against it unless there has already been a theft at their site.

Most people know MTGA for mining.

Most people don’t know that a significant portion of our work is in civil construction. Roadworks and infrastructure projects, tunnelling, temporary site setups, greenfield builds. Every product from MTGA comes from under one roof, right here in the Perth workshop. From fabrication, wiring, fit-off, testing and quality checks, all done by the same team that will support the unit in the field for the next decade or longer. There's nothing outsourced here, nothing bolted on at the last minute and it lives up to quality Australian manufacturing standards.

This week, we were out in the field and caught an oldie but goodie... An MTGA 110 series communication trailer. Still in service 12 years later, with the original branding, original build plate and still doing the job it was made for.

This is something we take a lot of pride in!. Every MTGA build is engineered for the environment it operates in, not the environment described in a product spec sheet. That means spec'd where it matters, serviceable where it counts, and built by the same team who will still be here in 2038 if something needs looking at.

The current 110 Series has evolved since 2013, but the fundamentals are the same. Solar-powered, self contained, designed and manufactured in Perth, WA.

Out on a site this week!

The remote operations that MTGA supports don’t happen from an office. They happen in 40-degree heat, on red dirt, on sites where the nearest hardware store is 800km away. Which is exactly why we design, build and support our gear the way we do.

Mining communications used to mean UHF radios and a landline to the office.

Now it’s autonomous haulage, real-time machine health, CCTV, access control, IoT sensors and remote ops centres, all sitting on the same network. When it drops, the whole stack drops with it.
And most remote WA and QLD sites aren’t starting from ideal conditions.

No telco coverage. Heat, dust, vibration. Pits and haul roads that shift every few months. Mixed OEMs that were never designed to talk to each other.

For autonomous fleets, this gets sharper again. A black spot isn’t an inconvenience, it’s a stop zone. The network needs to follow the operational footprint of the site, not the other way around.
