How much does it cost to build or renovate in Melbourne in 2026? 🏡

It is one of the first questions we are asked—and one of the hardest to answer with a single number.

According to Archicentre Australia’s CostGuide 2026, indicative costs are currently:

🏗️ New construction & extensions: $2,700–$5,100/m²
🔨 Renovations: $1,600–$3,900/m²
🛁 Bathroom / ensuite: $17,500–$35,000
🍽️ Kitchen: $23,000–$49,000
🧺 Laundry: $10,000–$19,000

But here is the important part: your floor area is only one piece of the puzzle.

Site conditions, access, design complexity, structural requirements, material selections and the level of finish can significantly affect the final construction cost.
