Rebuilding a major piece of mining equipment like a 9400 bucket takes serious skill, patience, and attention to detail.

Our team recently wrapped up a massive end-to-end overhaul in the Kalgoorlie workshop.

✅ Replaced the structural rolled floor plate, repaired bridge plates, and backgouged all connections for maximum strength.
✅ Installed a full overlay wear package inside and out, complete with hardfacing on all plug welds, new heel blocks, and underside wear strips.
✅ NDT tested the cast lip, cut out and replaced damaged Pos 1 & Pos 6 noses (to ESCO specs), and upgraded to new-style ramp runner bosses.
✅ Linebored back to exact OEM specs, stripped out old bushes, and coated it in a fresh layer of Liebherr Grey.

After final testing and inspection, she’s back on the truck and headed out to keep operations moving.

Huge effort from the workshop crew on executing this one safely and to standard 👏🏻

Back in original orange 🏗️

The team had this dogbone linkage in the workshop recently for a refresh. It might look simple, but getting these back to specification is crucial to keeping equipment moving safely.

We handled the line boring, pressed in new bushes, and finished it off with a clean coat of Sandvik orange.

It’s now ready to head back to the site.

Meet the Team | Tim Crawford

With more than 20 years of experience in the steel industry, Tim Crawford brings a wealth of knowledge to the Willweld team.

Joining Willweld in March 2026 as a Boilermaker at one of our client sites, Tim has since transitioned into the role of Field Service Coordinator, where he plays a key part in keeping our field operations running efficiently.

A qualified tradesman with a Certificate III in Engineering, Tim’s career spans mining, heavy earthmoving equipment and fixed plant, with extensive experience in boilermaking, fabrication, shutdowns and maintenance. He has also held leadership roles including Workshop Manager, Maintenance Supervisor and Boilermaker Supervisor, giving him a strong background in maintenance planning, team coordination and client liaison.

Today, Tim coordinates personnel, schedules work, manages materials and works closely with clients and operational teams to ensure every job is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

We’re proud to have Tim’s experience and leadership as part of the Willweld team. 👏

From heavily corroded to site-ready 👏 just another day at Willweld…

This 621 cab came to us with significant corrosion and structural damage, requiring a complete repair and refurbishment to bring it back to standard.

Our team carried out:

✔️ Roof straightening and repairs
✔️ Side wall and panel repairs
✔️ General steel fabrication and structural repairs throughout the cab
✔️ Full sandblasting and surface preparation
✔️ Professional repainting and new decals
