A few words from our director, Rico

After enough years on enough sites, you learn that project management isn’t really about the program on the wall. That’s the easy part.

The real job is people. Managing a build is mostly managing what people expect, what they’re worried about, and what they haven’t said out loud yet. A plan is a guess we all agree to chase, and it’s wrong the moment we print it. My job isn’t to pretend otherwise. It’s to notice fast when things move, and get everyone the right information before they hear a rumour.

I don’t try to be the smartest bloke in the room. I’ve got tradesmen, designers and engineers who’ll forget more about their craft than I’ll ever know. My job is to keep all of them pulling the same direction, clear the obstacles out of their way, and take the heat when it comes so they can just get on with it.

And here’s the thing most people miss: the building gets finished, handed over, and one day it gets renovated or knocked down. What lasts is how you treated the people who built it. Pay your subbies fair, do what you said you’d do, and give the credit to the crew, because they earned it. That’s not the soft option. Over a career, it’s the only one that works.

Every job throws something at you. The trick isn’t avoiding it, it’s staying calm, sorting it, and making sure everyone comes out the other side better off.

That’s the approach. Always has been.
