Each month, the Sedgman Star Award is presented to an employee who embraces and clearly demonstrates our core principles: integrity, accountability, innovation, delivery and safety, while collaborating effectively with their colleagues to drive business success.

Abbas Mahmoodi, our June award recipient, is recognised for his exceptional management of key projects across North America, working closely with our global design engineering partners, and balancing complex project demands and mandates, all while continuing to deliver strong project outcomes.

Since joining Sedgman in 2018, Abbas has progressed through various project engineering and management roles, developing senior processing specialist expertise, and is currently working as a Project Manager. Beyond his project work, he is also involved in attracting and onboarding new talent in Sedgman's Montreal office and helping to connect these employees with project opportunities.

While Abbas was initially attracted to Sedgman's strong reputation for technical excellence and innovation, he has found its people and culture to be among the key reasons he enjoys his job. "Sedgman's collaborative culture, everyone's willingness to share knowledge, and a shared commitment to delivering quality outcomes create an environment in which we all succeed."

"The work for which I am being recognized was made possible by the collaboration, expertise, and commitment of many colleagues. I am grateful to work with such a talented team and proud of what we have achieved together."

NAIDOC Week was a time for reflection and deep cultural learning at Sedgman. We were honoured to welcome Georgina Richters to our office for an insightful discussion on 50 Years of Deadly, which explored Australia’s past and its path forward. Georgina, who has extensive experience in First Nations advisory, shared her ‘two-world view’ – balancing traditional knowledge and cultural practices with navigating modern workplaces – and spoke about her vision for reconciliation in Australia.

A particularly impactful moment from Georgina’s session came in response to a question about native title determinations. Her explanation of the process provided valuable insight into how the resource industry may be perceived by Traditional Owners and prompted us to reflect on how we can engage more thoughtfully with First Nations stakeholders. It reinforced the importance of building lasting relationships and continuing to progress our reconciliation journey in a meaningful way. Thank you, Georgina, for sharing your time and knowledge with us.

Across the week, we shared information with our people about cultural events and volunteering opportunities taking place around the country. Several members of the Sedgman team spent time last week in Logan, Queensland, supporting the city’s NAIDOC Family Fun Day as volunteers. Others in Brisbane joined the community celebrations at Musgrave Park.

Thank you to everyone who participated in NAIDOC Week 2026 at Sedgman.

As climate reporting frameworks continue to evolve, organisations are increasingly focused on strengthening the alignment between disclosures, underlying data and business decision-making. At Sedgman, we are supporting resources organisations with alignment to the requirements of the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standard Climate Related Financial Disclosures (AASB S2). This includes improving transparency and consistency in assumptions and recognising the evolving nature of Scope 3 data.

The Sedgman Star Award recognises employees who live and breathe our core values: integrity, accountability, innovation, delivery, and safety. Our latest recipient Roshanak Jalili is a Planning Manager for the North America region. Roshanak joined Sedgman in 2022, building on a decades-long career in planning, scheduling and cost management across the mining, oil and gas sectors.

In her role, Roshanak provides leadership, direction, alignment, and clarity to support successful project delivery, working closely with teams across the business. Recently, she undertook a months-long relocation to Sedgman’s Frankfurt office, contributing to projects across multiple time zones. Throughout this period, she continued to demonstrate strong dedication and exceptional performance, earning the respect of both colleagues and clients.

Roshanak views this award not as an individual achievement, but rather a testament to years of close collaboration with colleagues, which also speaks to the opportunities Sedgman offers its employees to contribute to meaningful success. She considers collaboration, innovation, and critical data analysis the keys to success in project delivery; turning information into actionable insights that challenge industry norms.

Sedgman’s collaborative culture of technical excellence supports these capabilities, and Roshanak looks forward to contributing to the continued growth of the business, while maintaining its commitment to outstanding outcomes for clients and communities.
