What an incredible experience over the last 3 days presenting "Why Safety Matters" at the Toowoomba Regional Council’s October National Safety Month forum! 🌟
It was a privilege to visit the Charlton, Pittsworth, Crowsnest, and Toowoomba depots to be part of such a well-organised and impactful event. The sessions were diverse, with participants ranging from plant operators, tradespeople, gardeners, administration staff, payroll teams, and Corporate and community relations. The response and feedback were amazing! 🙌
Seeing how the Council brought together such a broad mix of people to engage in safety was inspiring. We had presentations from bone marrow transplant specialist Kate, financial wellbeing expert Philippa, Heather, and Elyse from Heritage Bank, council General Managers, and safety professionals, all contributing to the theme “Safety is everyone’s business.”
For Why Safety Matters, it was a wonderful and memorable experience to share the importance of safety and well-being with such a committed community. I’m honoured to have been part of this journey, and I’m grateful for the incredible support shown by everyone involved. A huge thank you to the Toowoomba Regional Council for their dedication to safety and community engagement. Thanks to the people involved in putting this event together and the participation from the groups.

The Story of a Tunnelling Family

I believe my story could play a significant roll in saving lives by revealing the consequences family members face if you lose your life in an accident at work.

We all make decisions to be more proactive in the workplace yet we may at times push the safety barriers set in place to get the job done.

I have a presentation where I talk about losing my Brother in a mining accident in 2004 and my father to a workplace accident in May 2017 and the impact it had on my life. Both experienced workers who didn't come home.

After 24 years in the Construction industry, I feel the attitude towards unsafe work practices is still very prominent. I see the volume of infrastructure increasing dramatically and the amount of workers needed to complete these projects all at once means a very inexperienced workforce.
