See that fume? Your welder shouldn't be breathing it.

In this clip, the operator is running MIG with a Speedglas ADFLO powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) — and it's worth understanding what's actually happening under that helmet.

The ADFLO is a belt-mounted turbo unit that draws workshop air through a high-efficiency particle filter and delivers a continuous flow of clean, filtered air (170+ L/min) up into the welding helmet. That constant airflow creates positive pressure inside the headtop, so instead of drawing fume in with every breath, the welder is working in their own supply of filtered air — all shift, without the breathing resistance of a tight-fitting mask. Add a gas filter and you've got coverage for ozone and other gases on top of particulates.

For the individual fabricator, it's one of the best investments you can make in your own health.

But here's the important part: respiratory protection is the last line of defence, not the whole answer. Best-practice fume control is multi-pronged:

- Reduce fume at the source — process, parameters and consumable selection all change how much fume you generate in the first place
- Extract it before it reaches the breathing zone — on-torch extraction and local exhaust ventilation (LEV)
- Ventilate the workspace — general and mechanical ventilation
- Then protect the welder — PAPR systems like the ADFLO for whatever's left
With Australia's tightening workplace exposure limits for welding fume, now is the time to look at your whole setup — not just one piece of it.

No two workshops are the same, which is why we don't do one-size-fits-all.

Talk to the QWS team about a fume control approach tailored to your processes, your bay layout and your budget.

That's not carbon arc — that's plasma. 🔥

We took the Hypertherm Powermax 125 out for a client demo on plasma gouging, and the footage speaks for itself.

If you're still gouging with carbon arc, here's why it's worth a look:

✅ Way less fume and smoke
✅ Much quieter than CAC-A
✅ No carbon contamination — less grinding before you re-weld ✅ Cutting, gouging and marking from the one machine

The Powermax 125 is the biggest air plasma in the Powermax family — 44mm cut capacity, around 12.7 kg/hr of metal removal, and a 100% duty cycle so it keeps up all shift.

Keen to see it on your own material?

Give our team a call on 07 3399 6199 to arrange a demo or email us at: [email protected]

Can you see the fume? Neither can we.

Arc live, welder mid-run — and no visible fume anywhere in the bay.

That's not luck. That's four layers of control working together:

🔹 Nederman Welding Fume Protection System 860 — 16kg portable LEV capturing fume at the source, 180m³/h, 99.7% filter efficiency, auto start/stop, AS/NZS ISO 21904 compliant
🔹 3M Speedglas G5-03VC Pro Air with heavy-duty Adflo PAPR — filtered air straight to the breathing zone, RMPF 50, 12-hour battery, boostable airflow for hot days
🔹 Kemper Filter Master mobile extractor — ambient air cleanup (sitting idle here, we were demoing the Nederman)
🔹 Weldmax Versitec 250i Series 2 — synergic MIG/TIG/MMA, because a stable arc simply makes less fume

With WES becoming WEL on 1 December 2026 and exposure limits dropping, "she'll be right" isn't a fume plan.

Every workshop is different. We'll help you build the solution that fits yours — not a one-size-fits-all package.

Distortion on thin sheet is one of the most expensive problems in fabrication — rework, straightening, scrapped panels.

Kemppi Australia's MAX Cool process tackles it at the source.

By operating in the short arc range with precise current control during each short circuit — followed by a controlled pulse delivering just enough heat — MAX Cool cuts heat input by up to 32% compared to conventional pulse or short arc MIG.

Less heat means less distortion, without sacrificing weld pool stability.

Where it earns its keep:

- Thin sheet fabrication
- Root passes
- Gap bridging — it handles larger air gaps comfortably, and butt joints no longer need backing
- Joining thin extruded sections

It runs on the X5 FastMig and selected Master M machines, and covers Steel, stainless, CuAl8 and CuSi3 wires — so brazing coated sheet is on the table too.

We stock and support the full Kemppi X5 range here in Brisbane.

If thin material is giving you grief, talk to the team about a demo — we'll match the process to your job, not the other way around.

Ever wondered why these big diesel units are the backbone of every mine site and pipeline job in the country? ⚙️

They're called engine drives — and they're basically a welder, a generator and an air compressor rolled into one diesel-powered package. No mains power? No problem. That's why they live on mine sites, pipeline spreads, construction jobs and the back of service trucks all over Australia.

The tech inside them has come a long way, too:

- Remote control through the weld cables themselves — welders can adjust their settings at the joint instead of trekking back to the machine (Miller's ArcReach® and Lincoln's CrossLinc® both do this, no control cord needed)
- Dual-operator capability — two welders, two independent arcs, one engine. Roughly a third less fuel than running two machines
- VRD safety systems — mandatory on Aussie mine sites
- Cleaner, more fuel-efficient diesel engines than ever
The two units in these photos just rolled through our workshop — fully mine-specced with roll frames, spill trays, e-stops and battery isolation, ready for site.

Whatever the brand, whatever the spec, the QWS team builds it to your site requirements and backs it long after the sale.

When it comes to welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment, there's rarely a one-size-fits-all solution.

Every business has different requirements, production demands, budgets, safety considerations, and operational challenges. That's why at QWS, we don't believe in simply selling products — we believe in finding the right solution for the application.

Recently, we worked with a client to demonstrate a cutting solution combining the Hypertherm Powermax105 SYNC® and the ITM Rail Tug cutting carriage. While the equipment itself is impressive, the real value lies in understanding the client's process, identifying their objectives, and matching them with technology that will improve efficiency, consistency, safety, and overall productivity.

One of the greatest strengths of QWS is our ability to draw on a broad network of leading suppliers and manufacturers. Rather than being limited to a single brand or product range, we can work across multiple equipment and consumable partners to develop solutions tailored specifically to our customers' needs.

Whether you're looking to:

- Increase productivity
- Improve cut or weld quality
- Reduce downtime and consumable costs
- Enhance workplace safety

Two arcs. One engine. Built to mine spec.

The Miller Big Blue® 800X Duo Air Pak is the most powerful diesel engine-driven welder in the industry — and the unit featured in this video has been built to go straight to site.

What makes the 800X Duo a jobsite powerhouse:

- Dual operator capability – Two independent arcs at up to 400A each, with zero arc interaction. Parallel them for a single 800A arc when the job demands it.
- ArcReach® technology – Adjust parameters at the feeder or remote, through the weld cable itself. No control cords, no walking back to the machine. More arc-on time, better weld quality, fewer slip/trip hazards.
- Ingersoll Rand rotary screw compressor – 30,000-hour life expectancy with independent on/off control for fuel savings and longer service intervals.
- True multi-arc platform – Plug in two additional XMT® multi-process inverters and run four operators at up to 200A each.
- Efficiency that hits the bottom line – An estimated 34% saving running one dual-operator unit versus two single-operator machines.

This build: MR907763-3 Full Upgrade Package

Specced for mine site compliance — Dual VRD, roll frame and spill tray assembly, emergency stop, and double pole battery isolator with lockout device.

That's the QWS difference — we work with you to spec every build exactly to your site requirements, and our technical team backs you from the first conversation through commissioning and well beyond the sale.
