The 2026 IPWEA-QNT Annual Conference was a wonderful event, filled with learning, industry connection, and a celebration of the incredible work being delivered across Queensland and the Northern Territory.

🚧💡 We’re Hiring – Principal Civil Designer/Engineer — Toowoomba Office

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Civil Designer/Engineer to join our team in our Toowoomba Office. We are also open to the role being based in our Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg or Rockhampton Office. The role offers attractive remuneration, flexible working conditions and potential for career growth and development, through ongoing training and the latest in technology.

About the Role:

Design Leadership
✅ Scope and estimate civil design projects
✅ Prepare civil designs and produce detailed project design documentation
✅ Assign tasks and priorities to design and technical staff to ensure project requirements are met
✅ Mentor junior team members to build their technical capability

Project Management
✅ Lead the design and documentation of civil infrastructure projects from concept to completion
✅ Manage and coordinate subconsultants
✅ Maintain regular client engagement and manage stakeholder expectations
✅ Track project budgets, and forecast and report on project expenditure

Who we're looking for:
✅ A meticulous eye for detail and genuine pride in getting the design right the first time
✅ Sound judgement, blending technical analysis with practical experience to make confident calls
✅ The discipline to follow established processes, with the initiative to find practical solutions when challenges arise
✅ Clear, approachable communication, whoever's in the room
✅ The confidence to manage your own workload and adapt smoothly as priorities shift
✅ A collaborative, team-first approach, always ready to support colleagues and share the load

30 Years of Bridge to Brisbane 🤝 30 Years of Harrison Infrastructure Group

This week, we’re saying a big congratulations to the five team members from our Brisbane Office who got up early and smashed Queensland's biggest and best fun run 🏅

As part of the event, we proudly committed our support to BRAKE Driver Awareness, Transurban’s charity partner for the 2026 Transurban Bridge to Brisbane

💡Did you know? Road crashes remain one of the major causes of death and serious injury for young Australians. National road safety data shows that road crashes account for around a quarter of all deaths in the 15 to 24 age group. BRAKE exists to help change this through evidence-based school education focused on judgement, responsibility, peer pressure, distraction, passenger behaviour and safer decision making. At HIG, we believe that supporting young driver safety and helping more schools to access road safety education is vital as students become independent drivers. BRAKE is an organisation that we’re proud to get behind.

For the run we donned our green shirts and joined Team Transurban. After the run, our team enjoyed the Transurban VIP Area, which included a massage, hot breakfast and plenty of welcomed recovery. We thank Transurban for putting on an incredible event, enjoyed by so many.

Every two years, we bring our team and their families together to celebrate our achievements, recognise outstanding contributions, strengthen connections across our offices, and reflect on the journey that has made HIG what it is today. We had the privilege of attending the 2026 TMR Engineering, Innovation, and Technology Forum at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre💡

Our team explored this year’s theme, “delivering value — where risk and opportunity converge”, over three days of insightful presentations and conversations with fellow industry leaders.

Cameron Penrose, Associate and our Rockhampton Office Manager, shared, “There were very interesting topics covered, ranging from Active Transport, procurement, risk, Geotech, pavement and BHTSP. The highlight of the event was the introductory panel discussion: Shaping the Future of Engineering with Data and AI.”

Our team gained valuable insights from this inspiring event as we continue our focus on sustainability, collaboration and impactful solutions.

As part of our Gold Sponsorship with the UTEC - Unisq Toowoomba Engineering Club, we have the privilege of participating in their club-hosted events like Sip n Share.

Last week, our COO, Denis Manassero, and Senior Associate, Steve Luther, from our Toowoomba Office got the chance to chat with the next generation of engineers. It was a great morning, allowing our team to connect with students and share our industry insights and experience.
