There are parts of project delivery that don't often make it into our updates yet are interesting and unexpected. Recently at on one of our Southeast Queensland sites, the team found an alternative use for material that would otherwise have been written off with several large timber sections recovered from the river as part of the project scope.

Rather than let it go to waste, the timber has found a second life. Divers were mobilised, along with lifting equipment, to bring the sections safely out of the river. The timber has since been donated to Darling Downs Zoo, with the hollow sections destined for an upcoming animal enclosure and the root ball possibly headed for a new home with the meerkats. The remaining pieces will be repurposed as decorative features across various exhibits at the zoo.

It's an inspiring reminder that you never quite know what a project might bring and sometimes a rewarding moment sits outside the original scope. Shoutout to Horizons Civil Solutions, who generously gave their time and equipment to assist in relocating the timber safely.

How do we attract and build the workforce Australia's water sector will need for the decades ahead? That question sat at the centre of last week's Careers in Water Planning Day, hosted at the Australian Water Association's Sydney offices, a room that brought together water authorities, government, councils, universities and industry leaders, all working toward the same goal; a sector with the people it needs to thrive, now and long into the future. As a Founding Partner of AWA's Careers in Water program, Pensar was proud to have a seat at that table. Jane Death joined the conversation on industry attraction, advocacy, and the initiatives that will keep this program, and the pipeline it builds, sustainable for years to come.

It's a conversation Pensar feels strongly about. As a contractor delivering critical water infrastructure, we see first-hand that the people who design, build and deliver these projects shape the sector's future as much as those who operate it. Our Guiding Principles Award recognises team members who exemplify the values at the heart of Pensar. We celebrate our team members who act with integrity, respect, and bring purpose and drive to everything they do through continuous improvement. The award shines a spotlight on individuals who go above and beyond in both their work and the way they show up for their team, delivery partners and clients.

This quarter, we are proud to recognise Mitch Cu***ng as our Q2 Guiding Principles Award winner. Mitch stepped up to take ownership of QA across reservoir coating projects for one of our water utility clients. He's shown real accountability and professionalism, tackling challenging subcontractor performance and quality issues head-on. What stands out is his willingness to push for the right actions and stay focused on the outcomes that matter, earning him genuine trust and recognition across the project team. It's a great example of what steady, consistent effort can create over time.

Our Tasmanian team recently completed the design and construction of a new containerised chlorine gas facility for TasWater at the Orford Water Treatment Plant. The project brought together process, mechanical, civil, electrical and control systems disciplines within a single integrated delivery scope, from concept design through to installation and commissioning, a great example of the breadth Pensar can bring to a project of this complexity.

Our team thrives on the complexity that comes with working on live, critical water infrastructure and last week's milestone at Bandon Grove is a perfect example of this.

Working alongside Hunter Water, our team successfully installed a new valve on the southern side of the Williams River, a key step in futureproofing the Chichester Trunk Gravity Main (CTGM), a critical pipeline that helps deliver drinking water to thousands of customers across the region.

Shutdowns on assets like this leave no room for error. Every isolation, every sequence, every reinstatement has to be planned down to the finest detail and executed safely, with continuity of supply to communitiesโ€™ front of mind throughout.

At Pensar, we make a point of bringing people together. One simple way we do that is through BBQs, whether in the office or on site. It's a small tradition, but it does quality work building camaraderie, breaking down barriers, and providing people a genuine sense of belonging.

We are honoured to have recently been awarded the Grahamstown WTP - Stage 2 Filter Replacement project for Hunter Water. The Grahamstown WTP feeds approximately 400,000 customers, so this project isn't just about upgrading assets, it's about doing it without disrupting the water security the local community depends on every day.

Our largest NSW project to date, the scope includes the upgrade of six filters, each involving concrete remediation works and replacement of existing filter media and underdrains. Alongside the filter works, the project includes a new blower and blower room modifications, new pipework and valves, PLC upgrades, and control system programming changes, all underpinned by thorough commissioning and performance testing.

It's exactly the kind of complex, live-site delivery challenges our teams thrive on, balancing operational continuity for Hunter Water with the technical rigour this asset upgrade demands.

We're proud to share that the Mount Crosby East Bank Critical Electrical Infrastructure Renewal, delivered collaboratively with Seqwater, has received the NECA QLD Award in the Industrial X-Large category.

Pensar was engaged to deliver the $40+ million electrical infrastructure upgrade at the Mount Crosby East Bank Pump Station. On a typical day, the precinct supplies 50% of all drinking water to the Southeast Queensland community, including Gold Coast, Logan, Unitywater and Urban Utilities' customers.
