In a recent project, we developed an immersive, interactive, and accessible virtual reality experience that shares the inspiring journey of Katie Kelly, Australia’s first female para-triathlete to win Paralympic gold at Rio 2016.

The project aims to build confidence and capacity among people with disability, while inspiring current and future athletes as we move towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We aim to create more of these experiences to inspire Australia’s future Paralympians and Olympians.

We would like to thank Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) for their contribution to this project.

It all started with very positive feedback from a parent of two children with ADHD who had used our earlier augmented reality road safety learning experiences. This feedback encouraged us to undertake further research and better understand that the learning needs of children with ADHD can differ from those of other children, and that AR can be particularly effective in supporting their learning.

We then discussed this with ADHD Australia, who helped make this road safety education for children with ADHD possible.

As part of a project in collaboration with Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO), we’re using immersive extended reality social stories and role model stories to empower people with disability. One of the stories we’ve had the opportunity to tell is that of Katie Kelly, the first female para-triathlete to win a gold medal for Australia at the Rio 2016 hashtagParalympic Games.

Here’s a sneak peek at her story. Mobile users will be able to interact with images, videos, and interactive 3D elements within the 3D environment to explore the story in their own way and at their own pace. Stay tuned to hear and see more from this exciting project!

For the 2025 Mandurah Christmas, we created a magical augmented reality-enabled Santa workshop experience. Mobile users can scan a QR code and hold their phones up to the poster on the wall to see the Santa workshop come to life and interact with the experience.

The closure of Meta’s Spark AR Studio this month gives us a chance to reflect on some of the exciting projects we were able to create using this incredible AR development platform. We’ve delivered multiple projects through Spark AR Studio, but without a doubt, the road safety education initiatives were the most impactful and successful. Thanks to Spark AR Studio, we developed several gamified road safety learning experiences, which have been used by our clients and partners to educate children, one of the most vulnerable groups on the road.

While it’s sad to see Spark AR Studio go, the rapid growth of augmented reality technology means there are many new pathways to continue creating amazing, gamified AR learning experiences. Stay tuned for more of our upcoming educational projects!
