From Vacation Student to Graduate Mining Engineer!

After completing two vacation placements at Gregory and MDS, Asif Rahman has recently returned to Sojitz as a Graduate Mining Engineer, which is a milestone he’s proud to reach.

He was drawn to mining for its mix of technical problem‑solving, teamwork and hands‑on work in the pit, so he studied a Master of Professional Engineering (Mining Engineering) at Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines.

His vacation placements at Sojitz gave him real‑world experience in mine planning, production reporting and site inspections, and taught him the importance of ensuring that engineering plans are safe, practical and achievable.

What brought him back? The people. Asif says Gregory’s supportive environment made it the right place to begin his career.

He’s now building confidence in Maptek Vulcan and especially enjoys seeing his designs move from screen to pit to support the operation.

Well done, Asif! Your journey shows what dedication and real‑world learning can achieve.

Collaborating for a sustainable mining future! 🌱✨

Gregory Mine was proud to host over 70 industry professionals, researchers, and regulators in June for the Central Queensland Mining Rehabilitation Group (CQMRG) site visit.

For nearly 30 years, CQMRG has driven environmental leadership across the region so it was an excellent opportunity to showcase rehabilitation areas across Gregory - from the current works at Ramp 7 to some of the earliest rehabilitation completed in the late 1980s. The group also visited the Crinum Creek diversion project, gaining a firsthand look at the scale and complexity of environmental restoration in action.

The tour concluded at G North, where attendees gathered for a BBQ at the Ross Gooley Memorial - a fitting place to reflect on the legacy of rehabilitation work and the people who have shaped it.

Together, we’re demonstrating the power of collaboration and long-term commitment to our land.

Pushing for better mental health! 💪🧠

Throughout June, the Sojitz Blue team took on The Push-Up Challenge to raise vital awareness for mental health and su***de prevention. Aiming for 3,307 push-ups in honor of the lives lost to su***de in Australia in 2024, our teams went above and beyond!

Our teams completed an incredible 47,806 push-ups and raised $1,260 for mental health support, surpassing our initial goal. A massive thank you and well done to everyone who participated, cheered on their teammates, or donated. Together, we’re shining a light on su***de prevention and supporting mental health across Australia.

Sizzling sausages for a great cause! 🌭✨

A big thank you to everyone who threw their support behind our local community and swung by one of the Sojitz Charity BBQs at our Gregory site last week. Together, we raised an incredible $2,028!

These funds will directly support the Emerald Neighbourhood Centre. The generosity of our employees will help them provide local families with critical crisis support, domestic violence assistance, and emergency relief.

We are incredibly proud of our team for stepping up to make a meaningful difference where it matters most. Thank you!
