EPE is pleased to welcome Sonny L. as our new Business Development and Capability Manager, Countermeasures. Sonny brings deep expertise in threat reduction, risk mitigation and capability development across military and non-military environments. With a career spanning Intelligence, Electronic Warfare, Special Operations, Targeting, Cyber, Space and CIED, he has a proven ability to translate complex threats and technologies into clear, practical solutions for those on the front line.

His Defence career includes key roles with the Joint Special Forces Operations Component, the Counter-IED Task Force, Army Electronic Warfare Squadrons, and as Program Manager and Technical Lead for Army’s Non-Conventional EW capabilities. Beginning as an Electronics Technician, Sonny has continued to grow his technical mastery with Masters degrees in Project Management and Information Technology, along with accreditation as a Digital Forensic Expert. Sonny’s strength lies in understanding the threat, listening to operators, and supporting them through the capability and procurement journey - ensuring intent, scope, budget and timelines align.

We’re thrilled to have Sonny join the EPE team as we continue our mission of supporting our government agencies across Australia, New Zealand and Indo-Pacific, with trusted counter-threat capabilities.

How much fun is it to see young students interact with robotics and dream about the possibilities? We love hosting the Y Schools Queensland Pathways Program to inspire young people to consider pathways in robotics and STEM. Our Senior Software Engineer Sami Raines, and Mechatronics Engineers, Luke Krenske and Angus Lane spent a morning with the Y Students talking about their roles in the Roo-ver Mission, and integration of sensors and detectors onto platforms such as Boston Dynamics Spot. The enthusiasm was awesome! Thank you YMCA Queensland and Cheyenne Jarvis for arranging the students' visit.

EPE New Zealand has officially opened its new and expanded headquarters in Upper Hutt, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth since establishing its New Zealand presence in 2014.

We thank the New Zealand Ministry of Defence and NZ Defence Force for supporting the showcase of the UROVESA VAMTAC Testbed.

EPE Group CEO Warwick Penrose highlighted “The release of the Defence Capability Plan sets out an ambitious investment programme to ensure New Zealand has the capabilities, infrastructure, and services needed to protect its people and interests. The Plan makes one thing clear: delivering on those objectives and priorities cannot be achieved by Defence alone. It requires industry “trusted partners” to deliver capability, sustain it through-life, and help ensure operational readiness."

Removing Ambiguity of Performance for Human and Machine.

Keith Thomas, EPE’s UAS Capability Manager and Chief Remote Pilot will deliver a presentation at RPAS in Australia Skies next week. The presentation aims at assisting managers and operators to understand the role of NIST Aerial Test Methods in both the selection of platforms, and the training of drone pilots. Keith holds a CASA RePL to fly multi rotors up to 25kg, and is one of only a handful of accredited NIST Aerial Test Method Proctors in Australia.

EPE. Trusted To Protect partners with Boston Dynamics to bring the Spot® public safety variant to defence and public safety sectors in the APAC Region.

EPE, an Australian veteran-owned company, announces a strategic partnership with Boston Dynamics, a world leader in mobile robots. This collaboration brings the advanced public safety Spot package to defence, public safety, and first responder agencies in Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia.

EPE and Boston Dynamics share a common mission - to protect and empower humans operating in hazardous environments. Spot serves as a critical asset, reducing risk by being the first to enter and assess potentially dangerous scenarios. Designed to assist incident commanders, Spot provides rapid situational awareness, enabling informed decision-making and de-escalation of hazardous situations. Operators issue simple commands, allowing Spot to autonomously navigate complex environments. Equipped with a self-righting feature, Spot can recover from falls, while its arm manipulation transforms Spot to more than just a surveillance platform making it a more valuable tool for public safety with the ability to manipulate the world around it.

With over 450 robots and thousands of sensors already deployed in defense and public safety sectors, EPE continues to lead the way in shaping the future of robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) in Australia.

We had the honour of hosting retired MAJGEN Mick Ryan at EPE to discuss lessons learnt from Ukraine and Gaza on evolving threats. The conversation emphasized the importance of not only adopting technology, but rapidly evolving and adapting them for use in high threat environments. We were also joined by other Queensland leaders in innovative technologies: Peta Ellis and Jake Bostock from Beaten Zone Venture, and Dr Lee Finniear from Li-S Energy. As a leader in Robotics and Autonomous Systems, EPE is actively working on projects to adapt and integrate sensors and effectors with RAS systems.
