The EDL team stepped up for Steptember Australia – challenging each other to take 10,000 steps a day to raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. In both Australia and North America, our teams were counting their steps and their donations daily.

Thanks to the huge effort from our team members who participated and those who donated we were able to take over nine million steps and raise almost $55,000 for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

PEOPLE POWER: Meet Tim, EDL’s Global Control Centre Manager who keeps operations running smoothly and thrives on innovation and improvement. Tim has been with EDL for more than 22 years, joining the team back in 2004 and relocating his family to Brisbane from Darwin.

Over his 22 years with the company, Tim has worked in many roles and on a wide range of projects across Australia. These have included Senior Controls Engineer, Project Engineer, Commissioning Manager, Engineering Manager, Operations Information Manager, and most recently Central SCADA and Global Control Centre Manager.

Tim was drawn to work with EDL to develop his engineering and leadership skills. “I enjoy working across a diverse range of energy technologies, learning and growing as I take on new roles. I’ve stayed with EDL because of the opportunity to drive innovation and improvement. I’ve always enjoyed being an early adopter of new technologies, and in my work at EDL I get to apply those technologies to real business challenges,” said Tim.

Tim is particularly proud of his role in helping to deliver several key digital initiatives at EDL including the introduction of an operational information platform powered by PI Historian, the establishment of the Global Control Centre, and most recently leading the rollout of Central SCADA across Australia.

“I enjoy helping our people to make better decisions in their roles by providing better information and tools. I also enjoy mentoring people and sharing knowledge. Success isn’t just about delivering a system – it’s about helping individuals and teams get the most from a system so they can perform at their best,” he added.

Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies, cooking and dining out, as well as trying out new technologies. Tim was an early adopter of electric vehicles and was one of the first to arrive at the EDL office by electric scooter.

PEOPLE POWER: Meet David, a Mechanical Operator with EDL based in Broome, Western Australia. David’s been on fire at work and on the football field, having recently been awarded the EDL Excellence Award for Safety and also being team captain of Fyre, the winning team in Broome’s A Grade Touch Rugby.

David is a strong advocate of safety and wellbeing in all his roles, on and off the field. “I lead by example in EDL. I want to go home safely to my wife and four children at the end of every day, and I want our whole team to be safe at work. Safety is not just a requirement of the job, it is a commitment to ourselves, our families and our team. That extends to taking care of our health and wellbeing at home and being active members of our local community,” said David.

A typical day at work for David starts with checking for any issues that may have arisen, planning any urgent work required, and then moving onto scheduled maintenance and processes. He works primarily in Broome but also travels to more remote sites in Fitzroy, Halls Creek and Looma. He enjoys the challenge of diagnosing issues and fixing them, as well as supporting new team members to help develop their knowledge and skills.

Since joining EDL in 2023, David has played a key role in connecting EDL with the local touch rugby community. “I believe that team sports align with the values of EDL – it’s good for our physical and mental health, and also encourages teamwork,” said David.

EDL has sponsored Fyre since 2022, and the Broome Touch Association since 2024. These sponsorships reflect EDL’s ongoing commitment to supporting our people and making a positive contribution to our communities.

“Mental Health is Everybody’s Business,” and today this was the focus of discussion at EDL’s Brisbane office as we paused to recognise R U OK? Day and reflect on the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

This year, EDL hosted a special session with the Black Dog Institute to explore mental health in the workplace, increase mental health literacy, reduce stigma and help build resilience.

The session was a valuable opportunity to focus on our wellbeing – something that is easy to overlook with today’s busy lifestyle.

We discussed practical steps that we can all take to support good mental health, including reaching out to friends, family and colleagues when we’re not feeling quite right, or taking the time to simply check in on a mate.

Thank you to the Black Dog Institute for the honest and informative session, and for reminding us that on R U OK? Day and every day, a simple conversation can do a world of good.

We’re pleased to announce the renewal of our landfill gas agreement at the Browns Plains Landfill Gas Power Station in Queensland, Australia. This cements our long-term partnership with Logan City Council – almost thirty years of collaboration turning everyday waste into renewable energy, powering local homes and businesses.

Our new agreement will see operations continue for at least fifteen years into 2042, with options for further extensions.

This landfill site, operated by Logan City Council, currently receives around 170,000 tonnes of waste annually. Commissioned in 1997, EDL’s Browns Plains Landfill Gas Power Station captures methane, which is produced as organic matter decomposes in the landfill, and uses it to fuel the power station. This generates around 15,000 megawatt hours of electricity each year - enough to power roughly 2,000 homes, while helping to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions equivalent to taking over 24,000 cars off the road each year.

Today is the first day of a new month, the first day of a new season (in Australia) and the first day to start getting your steps in for Steptember 2026. EDL has proudly supported this event for the past eight years, and we’re stepping up again in 2026.

Teams from EDL Australia and North America will take part this year, targeting 10,000 steps per person per day to raise critical funds for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. EDL will match every dollar raised by our teams.

Congratulations to our team at the Maitland Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Plant in Western Australia on the successful completion of the site’s annual maintenance program.

Months of planning and preparation go into this scheduled one-week shutdown, which allows the team to complete critical preventative maintenance, compliance activities and other works to keep the plant operating safely, reliably and efficiently.

EDL’s LNG Plant and Transport Manager Alex DeVreeze said, “The annual maintenance program plays a vital role in maintaining the reliability and high standards that our customers expect. It needs to run like clockwork, and I’m pleased to say the team’s meticulous efforts ensured we finished this year’s program safely, on time and on budget, enabling us to get back to normal operations quickly.”

EDL’s Maitland LNG Plant supplies natural gas that helps deliver reliable power across the Kimberley region, making this important work key to supporting customers and communities in the region. Well done to everyone involved in another successful shutdown.

EDL Plant Manager Robert Brophy, based at our Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Plant in Limestone, Ohio, has chartered a unique course for his career - from working on ships to shaping the future of renewable energy.

Robert’s career started at sea for the U.S. Navy, and then working at a shipyard. When he returned home to Ohio, Robert was looking for a new work environment and found it with EDL. In 2022, Robert joined EDL as an Operator, and was quickly promoted to a Maintenance Supervisor role, before being offered the position of Plant Manager in 2024.

“I enjoy working with large-scale equipment and being part of a fast-moving industry,” said Robert. “I’m grateful for the support and opportunities I have at EDL, which has helped me to develop my leadership skills and advance my career.”

As Plant Manager, Robert works with his team to manage the daily operations at Limestone and ensure they stay on track with their goals. “I have the best group of colleagues in my team and I truly enjoy working alongside them every day. I’m passionate about growing as a leader and continuously improving our facility and our team,” said Robert.

Outside of work, Robert enjoys spending time with his family, including newest family member Azula, an American Akita. They enjoy playing in the backyard or visiting local parks.

Have you ever tried to explain sustainable energy to an elementary school student? Lisa has. At a recent career day at her son’s school, EDL’s Environmental Compliance Engineer Lisa gave students an overview of our business and her role with EDL.

Lisa hopes her visit may inspire students to become future leaders in our industry. “I was excited to introduce EDL and tell the students about my job, as well as talk about career opportunities in our industry, especially for young women. The students asked some very insightful questions, and I was proud to share my perspective and represent EDL,” said Lisa.

Lisa joined EDL just over one year ago, having previously worked in environmental consulting and civil engineering roles. She’s happy to be part of a team that shares her values and passion for renewable energy and protecting our planet for future generations.

“I’ve always been very interested in the idea of repurposing waste products and turning them into energy,” said Lisa. “At EDL I get to see that idea come to life at our LNG and RNG sites, and I get to learn more about how those systems work at a deeper level,” she added.

A typical day at work for Lisa might be preparing reports for regulatory bodies, conducting environmental training and offering support to EDL’s site operators to ensure environmental targets are being met or exceeded.

Outside of work, Lisa enjoys her time with family and friends, especially days spent hiking and paddleboarding.
