People Power: Meet Chris, a High Voltage (HV) Electrical Operator based at McArthur River in Northern Territory, Australia.

Chris started his career as a refrigeration mechanic, working on everything from oil rigs to pearling boats. At EDL’s McArthur River site, he has become a valued member of the team. He feels at home and wants to stay for the long term.

As a refrigeration mechanic in the early days of his career, Chris gained experience working across a wide range of industries. He completed his apprenticeship and moved into roles where he could focus on HV Electrical work, which led him to EDL.

Chris has found a workplace where he not only feels valued, but also where he has room to grow. “I’m working with a highly experienced team, which means I learn new things every day and become a better person both professionally and personally. I enjoy being able to help my coworkers just as they help me – it creates a good team environment for us all,” said Chris.

A typical day for Chris starts early, but he appreciates the daily pre-start meetings which provide an opportunity to reflect on any issues from the previous day and plan for a productive day ahead. “After our meeting we get started on our tasks for the day – anything from planned maintenance to complete engine rebuilds. I like the daily variety of my work and the challenges that it brings,” said Chris.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys travel, fishing, AFL and NRL football, or anything that brings him together with his large family and friend group.

Did you know EDL helped our customers avoid more than 3.3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2025? That’s the equivalent of taking over one million cars off the road!

Today is World Conservation Day, a time to reflect on the role we all play in protecting our environment. At EDL, we take conservation seriously – from protecting the natural environments that surround our sites to finding innovative ways to reuse waste and optimise the use of our resources.

EDL operates landfill gas and waste coal mine gas power stations that capture waste gases and convert them into electricity and renewable natural gas. We also operate hybrid renewable power stations that combine renewables with battery storage to minimise reliance on traditional energy sources. Together, these solutions help our customers reduce their carbon footprint while optimising the use of resources.

In addition, we continue work to reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions within our own operations.

Meet Winder – EDL’s IT Security Lead, based in Brisbane, Australia.

Whether he’s on the beach volleyball court or in the office, Winder is a master of defence. He’s working hard to keep EDL safe from cyber security threats, protecting our people and our operations. He’s also a great team player on the beach volleyball court, having represented at a state and national level in the Masters and Grand Masters Division.

With fifteen years of experience in cyber security roles, Winder is able to combine technical expertise with strategic planning to protect EDL’s critical infrastructure and support our business growth.

Winder is energised by solving complex challenges and helping EDL to navigate ever-evolving cyber threats. “I enjoy bringing together people, processes and technology to protect the business while enabling growth and innovation,” said Winder. “It’s rewarding to work with such a great team and see EDL’s cyber resilience grow stronger, knowing we are supporting the secure operation of our energy infrastructure,” he said.

Outside of work, Winder keeps busy with his beach volleyball team as they train for their next competition and also enjoys design and woodwork. He loves spending time with his family and is always looking for a new challenge.

Meet Doreen, EDL’s HR Coordinator based in Brisbane, Australia.

A career in HR means no two days at work are ever the same, and Doreen loves the variety that her role provides.

This week is NAIDOC Week in Australia – a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As part of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan and in connection with NAIDOC Week, we’ll be hosting a virtual Cultural Awareness Session that our team around Australia can join. This session will be facilitated by Tom Kirk, a respected Gurreng-Gurreng man, and will provide an opportunity to listen, learn and deepen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

This year, NAIDOC Week commemorates its 50th anniversary – five decades of resilience and community-led cultural momentum. Through understanding, respect and connection we can all play a part in supporting reconciliation. 🖤💛❤️

The Fourth of July is always a special celebration in the USA – marking the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This year is even more significant, as the nation celebrates 250 years of Independence or the Semiquincentennial (try saying that five times fast!)

We’d like to wish a very happy Fourth of July to our colleagues, customers and partners in the US, and hope you enjoy a wonderful long weekend ahead!

How will you be celebrating?

PEOPLE POWER: Meet Samantha, a.k.a Sam, EDL’s Global HR Systems Lead, based in Brisbane, Australia. Sam’s story with EDL started as a 20 year-old intern, still at university and with no experience in a corporate environment. Today, more than nine years later, Sam oversees all of EDL’s HR systems across our global operations.⭐️🌏

During her internship, Sam gained valuable foundational knowledge in HR operations, systems and administration. She advanced into HR Coordinator and then HR Officer roles. “Gaining that foundation in core HR through my early roles provided a fantastic starting point,” said Sam.

When EDL undertook a major technology transformation, rolling out new software systems across the global business, Sam was appointed Functional Lead for the project. Her outstanding management of this project saw her receive the CEO’s ‘Can Do’ Excellence Award in recognition of her efforts.🏆🌟

Today, Sam still finds challenge and rewarding experiences in her role. “No two days are the same, and it keeps things interesting,” said Sam. “The people I work with are great at what they do, and they know how to keep things fun. There’s a good balance between getting things done and having a laugh along the way.

“EDL has provided me with the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, take on new challenges, and build the confidence to lead conversations,” she added.

Sam was recently featured on the WORK180 blog, read the full story here: https://work180.com/en-us/blog/the-five-week-intern-who-became-edls-global-hr-lead
EDL is a Work180 Endorsed Employer, reflecting our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. 💛

Our team in Maitland, Western Australia, can handle the heat – but their skills were put to the test in their recent fire safety training with the Maitland Fire Service.

The team completes this training every two years, as part of our commitment to safety as our top priority.

We’ve never had to put these fire safety skills into practice, and we do everything possible to make sure we’ll never need to! But this type of training ensures our teams are ready to handle any situation that could arise at work and get home safely to their loved ones.

Recently the EDL team at the Coolidge Road office in East Lansing rolled up their sleeves to donate blood for the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan Mobile Bus.

A single blood donation could save up to three lives ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you to everyone who donated, we’re so proud of our team who contribute to great causes and make a lasting impact in their local communities.
