We are incredibly proud to announce that Aite Group has won the 2026 Master Builders Queensland Brisbane Award for Commercial Refurbishment/Renovation from $10 million up to $25 million for the Lady Norman Building at Herston Quarter.

The project involved the extensive Design and Construct refurbishment of one of Brisbane’s significant heritage buildings. Delivered over a two-year programme, the works included major structural and heritage brickwork remediation, the restoration of original features, and the careful integration of modern services and internal spaces.

This award is a reflection of the commitment, expertise and genuine care shown by everyone involved.

We would like to thank Australian Unity for trusting us with such an important project, along with the architects, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers who worked collaboratively with us throughout the journey.

Most importantly, congratulations to our project and site teams. Delivering a project of this complexity required patience, attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to quality. This recognition belongs to all of you.

We are extremely proud to have played a role in preserving the Lady Norman Building and helping secure its future as part of the wider Herston Quarter precinct.

In collaboration with Cameron & Co Architecture, Aite Group was engaged to deliver the base building refurbishment and internal fit out, transforming the building into a modern dental surgery.⁠

Originally constructed in the 1970s, the building required significant modernisation to support the operational demands of a contemporary healthcare environment. Through proactive stakeholder engagement and careful project coordination, Aite Group successfully delivered a premium outcome while managing construction within a high-traffic urban setting.⁠

The project comprised approximately 700m² of high-end medical-grade fit out works, complemented by extensive external upgrades including new car parking, landscaping, accessible ramp installations, and a steel-framed masonry screen. The scope also included structural and services upgrades, alongside general building painting and roof maintenance works.⁠

Aite Group have proudly completed the heritage refurbishment of the iconic Lady Norman Building at Herston Quarter. ⁠

Built in the 1890s as a part of the expansion of the Brisbane Children’s Hospital, the heritage listed Victorian brick building was constructed to relieve overcrowding. The Lady Norman building housed dedicated in-patient paediatric wards, nurses’ accommodation and Queensland’s earliest purpose-built operating theatre for children. Its pavilion style design included wide verandas, high ceilings and stone and brickwork facades. ⁠

The Aite Group team undertook the whole building refurbishment as a Design and Construct project, delivering a large-scale full building refurbishment over a 2-year programme. The works included significant structural and heritage brickwork remediation, refurbishment of heritage listed features such as lanterns and fireplaces, alongside internal fit out works. ⁠

The project also extended beyond the building, delivering upgrades to the surrounding public realm with landscaping, lighting, seating, and public art—helping integrate the site into the wider Herston Quarter precinct and creating a more engaging, welcoming environment for the community.⁠
