Darkon Darkon offers modern architectural and decorative lighting profiles and downlight luminaires. We design and manufacture lighting solutions with flair.

The DARKON design philosophy encompasses two essential elements. The first is to create luminaires with architecturally aesthetic design features; the second is to give consideration to glare control and lamp imaging aspects of our products. Focusing on these primary elements, DARKON continues to design luminaires that can be considered as ‘silent’ or ‘active’. The silent appearance creates a lumi

naire that will complement the built environment. The active appearance creates a visual statement that allows our products to perform as strong architectural features. We now have both functional and aesthetic elements that can be combined to create a lighting experience that defines the inhabited space.

Created by DARKON in collaboration with Autex Acoustics Australia Acoustics, SENSATION brought together architects, interior designers, lighting designers, engineers and specifiers for an immersive exploration of architectural lighting, acoustic design and spatial experience.
Held at Bennetts Lane, Melbourne, the installation transformed a raw cold-shell tenancy into a series of atmospheric environments, demonstrating how light, texture and acoustics work together to influence mood, comfort, perception and the experience of architecture.
The event also marked the launch of our new SLIM TRADIE™ linear profile system alongside a curated selection of DARKON architectural lighting solutions and Autex's Verve™ Contoured Panel and Mirage™ Textured Panel.

Some of the best lighting design is knowing when not to add more light.

This July, DARKON is proud to sponsor the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) VIC/TAS Annual Chapter Meeting, followed by an insightful presentation by Dimitrios Tsiokaras from Electrolight.

The session explores darkness as a deliberate design tool. It examines how carefully controlled shadow, contrast and restraint can create atmosphere, enhance visual comfort and elevate the architectural experience. While lighting standards help define measurable performance, they cannot always explain why some spaces simply feel right.

At DARKON, our factory doors have always remained open to the A&D community. Never too busy or too removed to welcome project teams into the manufacturing environment - even from our first studio in Rokeby St, a strong ambition to connect deeply with the individuals, spaces, and thinking we help bring from concept into reality, has always existed.

Architectural lighting is ultimately judged not by the individual fitting, but by the atmosphere, identity and experience of the spaces it helps create. Behind every resolved outcome is an ongoing process of collaboration between designers, engineers, manufacturers and installers - refining ideas through materiality, prototyping, technical review and fabrication.

Australian manufacturing within our Broadmeadows production facility allows many of those conversations to still happen in real time.

The best architectural outcomes are rarely accidental.

They are developed collaboratively through technical understanding, considered design responses, shared knowledge and genuine partnership.

Architectural lighting is expected to perform consistently across visual comfort, beam control, colour quality, efficiency and compliance requirements.

That requires more than assembly.
It requires testing.

DARKON’s localised product development processes allow lighting systems to be continuously prototyped, refined and validated through technical evaluation and photometric review.

It also enables iterative review of architectural design intent, materiality and concept refinement - ensuring fabricated outcomes can be validated through approved samples prior to documentation or installation.
