Practical Earthworks for Regenerative Water Management
Learn how to work with water, not against it
This immersive, hands-on earthworks workshop is designed for people who want to move beyond theory and learn how to read the landscape and work confidently with water. Guided by experienced permaculture practitioners, you’ll explore how water flows through real landforms and how to design practical earthworks such as swales and drainage systems that build soil, resilience, and productivity over time.
What makes this workshop special is the combination of long-term demonstration experience, professional earthworks practice, and deep local knowledge of South Coast conditions. Sessions blend clear theory with on-ground practice, including contour reading, site assessment, and real-world implementation. Expect a grounded, collaborative learning environment with plenty of space for questions, discussion, and shared insight.
This workshop is facilitated by John Champagne (Brogo Permaculture Gardens), Daniel Lawton ( Daniel Lawton Permaculture) and Felix Leibelt (Geco Gardens), bringing together over four decades of combined experience in permaculture design, earthworks, and regenerative land management. Together, the facilitators offer a grounded, practical approach to reading the landscape, understanding water flow, and designing resilient earthworks systems. Drawing on long-term demonstration sites, professional earthworks practice, and real-world client projects, the team supports participants to move confidently from theory into application understanding not just how to build earthworks, but why they work within whole-system design.
