Hi All, I am conducting a combined RIIBLA201E Support Shotfiring Operations, RIIBLA205E Store, Handle and Transport Explosives and RIIBLA203E Conduct Mobile Mixing of Explosives course at the Moranbah (QLD) Community Workers Club from Wednesday 24th June to Friday 26th June 2026 inclusive, as part of my MOU with Blast It Global and DTE RTO. Each course will be run over a full day theory, with additional practical assessments and evidence gathering on site following completion of the course. The combined course timeline are as follows:
1. RIIBLA201E - Support Shotfiring Operations - 24th June 2026;
2. RIIBLA205E - Store, Handling and Transport of Explosives - 25th June 2026;
3. RIIBLA203E - Conduct Mobile Mixing of Explosives - 26th June 2026.
Each student can either choose to complete all three qualifications or only attend the nominated day/s for an individual qualification.

Excited to be running the Refresher Surface Shotfirer Course on 11 May 2026 (1 day), followed by the Full Surface Shotfirer Course from 12–14 May 2026 (3 days) at the Brisbane Geebung RSL, in partnership with Blast It Global Pty Ltd and Down-To-Earth Training and Assessing RTO #51199. Spots are still open for both courses—send an expression of interest to [email protected] if you need to complete your 5-year refresher or want to advance your blasting career in Surface Shotfiring within the Drill and Blast Global Industry. I’m keen to share insights from 26 years in the drill and blast industry, spanning Australian and international mining contracts, after 12 years of service in the Australian Army.

Great memories of my time as a contractor to Capital at Sukari Gold Mine in Egypt. Unfortunately I lost/misplaced quite a few pictures and only found these by accident. This was my first gig launching my company as Global Drill and Blast Services, after resigning from AECI. which involved training a small crew of Drill and Blast operators with little or no knowledge of Shotfirering from scratch, from dipping QAQC, to designing their own blasts, to loading their designed blasts, to firing the blasts and post blast inspections. I also had to train the team except two personnel how to drive a manual 4wd vehicles and a stemming loader.....and all in a 5mth period. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and especially seeing the team build not only their skill set but their confidence.....I do miss them. Many of the team have gone onto bigger and better roles which makes me so proud, because that's the reward, helping others to be better through shared knowledge 👏
