Recently, a local contractor contacted me after learning that their upcoming project would need to comply with AS/NZS 1554.1 They wanted to understand what was required to meet the standard and ensure their fabrication and welding processes were compliant.

After discussing their project requirements, I was able to assist by developing the necessary Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) and qualifying their welders to ISO 9606-1. This certification provides internationally recognised welder qualifications and, with ongoing continuity records maintained, can remain valid for up to 3 years.

The photos below provide a snapshot of the qualification process, helping the contractor establish the procedures, competency, and documentation required to confidently undertake work to AS/NZS 1554.1

Another successful round of welder qualification testing completed in PNG 🇵🇬

We recently trained and tested a batch of skilled boilermakers to the ISO 9606-1 international welding standard, helping ensure they meet globally recognised competency requirements for structural and pressure welding applications.

The program focused on practical welding techniques, procedure compliance, weld quality, and safe work practices — followed by formal qualification testing under controlled conditions.

It’s great to see local tradespeople continuing to develop their skills and gain internationally recognised certifications that support quality workmanship across the mining, oil & gas, construction, and maintenance sectors.

A big congratulations to all participants who successfully completed the training and testing program 👏

Busy couple of days in the shed knocking up some stainless piping spools for our mates at GP Engineering. Nice cream gig to start the week.

Something a little different from our usual scope of works.

As the cane crushing season approaches, the difficulty of supply and transport becomes tough.

We identified the base material and identified the best consumable to use on these stress cracks to help prolong the service use of these heater plates.

Another solid job completed, repairing a high-pressure steam line made from P22 chrome pipe. These lines operate under extreme temperature and pressure, so repairs require strict procedures to maintain the strength and reliability of the system.

The damaged section was carefully removed and replaced with certified P22 material, followed by the use of a qualified weld procedure. Preheating and careful temperature control were critical to prevent cracking and protect the integrity of the alloy steel.

Once welding was complete, 100% of the weld joints were subject to x-ray and magnetic partical inspection to ensure the weld met the required standard
