We are proud to sponsor children's sport around Cairns. Our recent sponsorship helped teams of local AFL children head to the Sunshine Coast to play. Congratulations to all the children who played and a huge shout-out to all the other small business who support children's sport.

Another rewarding find - an Original Line Peg placed by Surveyor Hollingsworth in 1932. Standing in the same place, measuring the same boundary line 94 years later. If you need to know where your boundaries are be sure to contact a Registered Cadastral Surveyor - the evidence of land boundaries do exist if you know where to look.

We perform surveys throughout FNQ - we will travel wherever the job takes us. In the past two months this has seen us performing surveys in Cairns, Tablelands, Mission Beach, Doomadgee (sunset below), Cooktown and Mt Molloy. I wonder where the upcoming few months will take us?

Sometimes boundary corners may seem obvious (end of the low concrete wall that runs along the boundary) and other times boundary corners are not so obvious (middle of a clump of bamboo). As Registered Cadastral Surveyors we can perform a boundary identification survey to confirm exactly where your boundary corners - so you know where to build or what you are buying.

Native flowers brighten lunchtime. You see many unique plants and animals working outdoors.

The hole and discolouration from the remains of an original survey post (OSP) placed in 1891. Awesome find this week after scrambling uphill (hands and knees). The original post, cut onsite from a nearby tree, would have looked similar to the sketch with about 0.4m above ground and about 0.6m buried. The original surveyor deemed the line inaccessible from this point. Original survey marks, or remnants of them, defining your land boundaries are often there if you know where to look. Using experienced, qualified surveyors like TerraModus Surveying provides you with boundary reinstatement confidence.

We often get enquiries where people think surveying is expensive. But what is your property worth? What is it worth to you to ensure you know where your boundaries are? Do you know the implications if you build over your boundaries? There is a lot involved to reinstate your property boundaries from the initial engagement, pre-office calculations, performing the field survey and producing the survey plan to provide accuracy and certainty to the location of your boundaries. I think a recent client summarises it best "engaging a land surveyor is the cheapest insurance to ensure the build goes smoothly".
** Picture below is from a job we did in suburban Cairns for a boundary realignment to rectify numerous encroachments. The rectification was a lot more expensive than having a survey done prior to construction.

Fences are often close to the boundary, but not always on the boundary. If you are building do not rely on offsets from a fence. This fence has been constructed near the boundary, but this is not always the case. If you need to know where your boundaries are, you need a boundary identification survey by a Registered Cadastral Surveyor.

What a day to be working outside!

It is lovely weather to be working outdoors at the moment. Last week's view from "the office". It is the time of year when we do a lot of travel so remember to plan in advance if you need a surveyor.
