Over 120 business owners, leaders and managers came together yesterday for the Workforce Evolution in FNQ event, hosted by the Cairns Regional Jobs Committee and Local Jobs Program, and supported by RDA Tropical North and the Cairns Chamber of Commerce.

The morning set a strong tone, focusing on solutions and practical action for the future of work in our region. Kieren Benfield from DTET opened with a clear snapshot of regional workforce data and projections, grounding the conversation in where key industries are heading and what that means for workforce planning.

Then, Sophie Renton from McCrindle brought those insights to life, exploring generational shifts, workforce expectations, and the growing importance of purpose, flexibility and connection in the workplace.

A local employer panel followed, sharing honest, practical strategies on attracting and retaining talent in a competitive market, followed by fast-paced “silent conference” sessions that sparked focus discussion and real takeaways across a range of workforce topics.

The key message from the day was clear: the way we work is evolving, and responding well will take intentional, collaborative and values-led action across our region.

🏌️🏌️‍♀️As the sun sets on another fantastic Annual Corporate Golf Day and the rivalry begins to build for 2027, we'd like to once again thank our major sponsor, Skytrans Australia, for their support for the fifth year running. Without their generous contribution, one of the most anticipated events on the Cairns Chamber calendar would not be possible.
