🏗️ Technical roofing works completed in Kingston

Following significant hail damage Savil Projects delivered a major loss insurance roofing replacement at Giles Street in Kingston, restoring the building roofing and ensuring the property was returned to full performance.

The works involved removing and replacing approximately 420m² of Klip-Lok Zincalume roofing, along with new metal battens, anticon roof blanket insulation, box guttering, parapet wall flashings and external penetrations. As part of the scope an existing AC unit was also decommissioned and removed to allow the roof system to be properly reinstated.

With the building operating as a live commercial site, careful planning and coordination were essential to maintain safety and minimise disruption to tenants while the works progressed.

Projects like this highlight the importance of technical experience when working with roofing systems, drainage interfaces and building penetrations. Particularly in live environments.

🏡 Problems solved in the proper Manor

Savil Projects has delivered a range of works at Peppers Manor House supporting the property through a mix of investigation, remediation, and major loss insurance repair works.

Our involvement began with a detailed investigation into the condition of the roofing systems across the site. This included safe roof access inspections, assessment of guttering and drainage, and hygienist testing and condition reporting across accommodation rooms in both the cottages and the main house. The outcome was a clear scope of rectification works to address issues identified during the process.

Additional works included constructing a new pergola roof structure over an existing cool room to address ongoing water ingress. The structure was built using treated pine framing with salvaged roofing materials repurposed from the site where practical to deliver a cost-effective solution.

A broad scope of investigation, remediation and recovery works delivered carefully within an operational hospitality environment with a supportive and trusting partner.

🏗️ Project Update | Landmark Apartments

Work is moving along well at Landmark Apartments, with roofing and associated upgrades progressing steadily across the site.

This stage has involved more than just new roof sheeting. Existing insulation has been removed and replaced to improve thermal performance and strengthen the building for the long term. It’s not the most visible part of the job, but it makes a real difference to comfort and durability.

Mechanical and remediation works are continuing alongside the roofing program. With residents still living onsite, the team has focused on careful planning, clear communication and adjusting where needed to keep disruption to a minimum.

Thanks to everyone onsite for the ongoing cooperation. More updates as the next stages take shape.

🎶 Tuning up at Burgmann College

As our broader works at Burgmann College move into their final stages, construction of the new purpose-built music room is well advanced and beginning to take shape.

Delivered within a live residential and academic environment, the space has been carefully engineered to manage sound, vibration and occupant comfort without impacting surrounding study and living areas. Layered acoustic wall and ceiling systems are being installed, alongside sound-absorbing finishes, vibration control measures and tightly coordinated service penetrations to prevent sound transfer.

Mechanical and electrical upgrades are currently being integrated to support both performance and comfort while maintaining the integrity of the acoustic design.

In parallel, the new computer room is now almost complete which is another key component of the upgrade that enhances student facilities and learning capability.

With final elements of the broader project continuing on site, careful coordination and clear communication remain central to delivering a smooth outcome within an operating campus.

More to come as we move toward final handover.

Case handled.

Savil Projects have delivered a raft of remediation works at the ACT Law Courts, right in the heart of Canberra’s legal precinct.

The works covered:

• Water ingress investigation and rectification, including waterproofing and tiling works and metal roofing works,
• New acoustic insulation installation,
• Facade upgrades,
• Internal remediation including painting, plastering, and carpentry.

A detailed multi-faceted scope delivered carefully.

The Courts remained fully operational throughout. That meant planning around proceedings, managing access tightly and keeping noise and disruption to a minimum and working outside of business hours when noise was inevitable. It’s the kind of environment where you work quietly, methodically and with a high level of respect for what happens inside the building every day.

Civic spaces like this matter. They’re part of the framework that keeps a community functioning. Being trusted to carry out works in that setting is something we take seriously.

Proud of the team for delivering the project with care, focus, and professionalism.

🏗️❄️ When the chillers go down, things heat up quickly.

When critical mechanical plant fails the impact is immediate. Comfort, operations and business continuity are all on the line.

Savil Projects were engaged to deliver the removal and replacement of chillers at Anzac Park West, 50 Constitution Avenue, as part of a major loss insurance recovery.

This wasn’t just a plant swap. The project involved:

✅Carefully decommissioning existing units
✅Coordinating crane lifts in a tight CBD environment
✅Installing new chillers
✅Integrating with the building management system
✅Fully commissioning the system to restore reliable cooling capacity.

All works were delivered while the building remained operational. This required careful sequencing, temporary services management and close coordination with stakeholders.

In the end, the outcome was simple. Cooling capacity restored. Systems recommissioned. Building back to full performance.

Another technically demanding recovery project delivered safely and efficiently by the Savil Projects team, with the assistance and support of EG Funds, CBRE, LMI Group, VRSana, Assurance Project Management.

Protecting places that protect people.

At Savil Projects, we know that construction is never just about buildings. It’s about people.

That’s exactly what our work at RSL LifeCare in Belconnen has been about.

Since 1911, RSL LifeCare has supported veterans and seniors with care and compassion, always staying true to its purpose of enriching the lives of older Australians. Being trusted to work in that environment carries real responsibility.

The scope has been extensive: roof replacements, mechanical upgrades, painting and plastering, electrical and fire services upgrades, new carpet, mould remediation and structural works. But at its core the goal has been simple, make sure the building continues to provide a safe and comfortable home for the people inside it.

Working in a live setting with vulnerable residents requires more than construction capability. It demands flexibility, sensitivity and clear communication at every stage. Our team adapted sequencing around care routines, maintained strict safety controls and remained responsive to the needs of staff and residents as works progressed.

Really proud of the team for the way they’ve approached this project: with professionalism, care and an understanding that people always come first.

📜 Some buildings protect history. This one helps protects a nation’s memory.

The National Archives of Australia is a nationally significant organisation that has safeguarded Australia’s official records for decades.

East Block is one of Canberra’s earliest civic buildings and forms part of the original Parliamentary Triangle, alongside Old Parliament House and West Block. Originally known as Secretariat Building No. 2, East Block was designed by Commonwealth government architect John Smith Murdoch. Construction commenced in 1925 with the building ready for occupation in 1926. The building is heritage-listed on the Commonwealth Heritage List, recognising its historical, architectural and civic significance as one of Canberra’s earliest government buildings.

Today, East Block is home to National Archives of Australia staff and museum spaces, continuing its long-standing role supporting Australia’s public service and national institutions.

Within its walls are records that trace the country’s political, social and cultural story — from foundational government decisions to personal histories that shape our collective identity. Protecting this building means protecting the memory of Australia itself.

The Archives remained a live, fully operational site throughout the works, with staff continuing their day-to-day activities while construction was underway. This required meticulous planning, strict safety controls and careful coordination to protect both people and sensitive archival collections at all times.

The project involved the removal and replacement of more than 3,000m² of metal roofing, along with alterations to roof framing, insulation and integrated systems. Delivered in a highly controlled environment, precision and reliability were non-negotiable.

This project reflects what we strive for in every build:

✅Technical excellence in complex, sensitive environments
✅Proven under pressure
✅Trusted when it matters most

Proud to have been entrusted to protect such a historically important building.
