What an awesome effort from the team juggling tide times to rebuild the swimming enclosure at Dingo Beach!
🌊🏊 Happy Friday from Dingo Beach!
Division 5 Councillor Gary Simpson was pleased to see the new permanent Dingo Beach Swimming Enclosure officially open, welcoming locals and visitors back to one of our region's favourite coastal spots.
After being damaged during Cyclone Kirrily in January 2024, the enclosure has been completely rebuilt following extensive community consultation, with more than 600 submissions helping shape the final design. Thank you to everyone who took the time to have their say.
A temporary stinger net has kept swimmers safe during the rebuild, and it's now been replaced with a new permanent timber-frame enclosure providing year-round protection from marine stingers.
💙 There's also a wonderful piece of local history behind this project. The original Dingo Beach swimming enclosure was built by local residents in the 1960s using tea tree branches and netting which is a great reminder of the community spirit that has always been part of Dingo Beach.
Whether you're heading down for a swim, spending the day with family or simply enjoying this beautiful part of the Whitsundays, we hope you enjoy the new enclosure!
