Winter is one of the harder times for systems as the Sun is playing peek-a-boo and somehow winning. Solar isn’t charging batteries as much as we want, and batteries aren’t covering our usages when we get home - and certainly not in the morning -, so how can we get by?
2 options;
More solar - yes, I know, budgets, roof spaces and equipment can limit this. So, a better option may be “3 Free Plans” (try say that quickly!)
“3 Free Plans” are being offered by more and more providers for 3 hours (usually 11am-2pm) of free energy each day to use as you wish. Some providers may even be able to offer "4 Free Plans".
This was introduced because the grid has become overloaded during the middle of the day when large amounts of excess solar are being exported from homes.
They have tried limiting exports (Flexible exports scheme) but it is still not enough. So why not just give it away?
AGL, GloBird and OVO are currently offering this plan. Within 4-10 business days of selecting the plan, everything will be setup to send energy to your home between ~11am-2pm. If you are struggling to charge your battery, we recommend setting up a schedule in your app (if possible) to force charge your battery during this time. Any home loads can be covered by what solar you are producing and the rest by this free energy.
