Yellow Ride

National Road Safety Week 2026 ends today.
But the message doesn't.

Today's theme - the Yellow Ride - closes out the week with one final reminder: every trip you take, every shift you start, every cone we lay down on a Queensland road is part of the same goal.

Drive so others survive.

Thank you to everyone who took the pledge this week. To our clients, our crews, our partners, and to every driver who slowed down through a worksite, gave way at a merge, or just took an extra breath before pulling out.

Road safety isn't a week. It's every day. We'll see you out there.

Drive safely on regional, country, rural and remote roads πŸ›£οΈ

Country roads are where the highest road tolls live.

Higher speeds. Longer distances. Wildlife. Fatigue. Limited mobile reception. Slower emergency response times if something goes wrong.

If you're heading out of the city this weekend:
🦘 Watch for wildlife at dawn and dusk
β˜• Stop for a coffee, not just for fuel
🚧 Slow right down through worksites -our crews work these roads too
πŸ“± Check your reception plan before you leave
πŸš™ Don't overtake unless you can see clearly

The road home is longer than the road out. Plan for both.

Plan your journey πŸ—ΊοΈ

Weekend approaches. So does the temptation to push.

To leave a bit later than you should. To skip the break you need. To squeeze in one more thing before the drive.

Today's theme asks us to do the boring, sensible thing - plan the journey.

🚦 Check the weather and traffic before you leave
🚦 Build in rest stops - every 2 hours is the standard
🚦 Make sure your vehicle's road-ready: tyres, lights, wipers, fluids
🚦 Tell someone where you're going and when you'll arrive
🚦 If you're tired, don't start. If you get tired, stop.

The job of getting there safely starts before you turn the key.

Refresh your road rules knowledge πŸ“–

When was the last time you actually read the road rules?

Most of us learned them at 16 or 17, sat a test, and haven't looked back. But the rules change. Roundabout etiquette, school zone times, mobile phone laws, e-scooter rules, give-way priorities at intersections - they evolve.

Today is your nudge.

Take 10 minutes. Refresh what you think you know. You might be surprised.

Our planners and supervisors at STM are across these rules every day - but for most drivers, a quick refresher is overdue.

Travel the road

Mid-week reset.

How often does a bit of road rage cost us minutes? Frustration over a slow merger, a missed indicator, someone hesitating at the lights?

Today's theme is a gentle one: travel the road to kindness.
🚦 Let the merger in
🚦 Give the learner some room
🚦 Wave the truckie through
🚦 Smile at the traffic controller - they've been standing there for 10 hours

Kindness on the road doesn't slow your day down. It might just save someone else's life.

Be mindful of young people on our roads 🚸

Today's theme hits close to home for anyone who's ever taught a teenager to drive, dropped a kid at the school gate, or watched a P-plater pull out of the driveway for the first time.

Young people are still learning. Still building experience. Still figuring out the road.
What they need from the rest of us:

🚦 Patience at intersections and roundabouts
🚦 A safe gap - not a tailgate - when they're getting up to speed
🚦 Slow, predictable driving around schools, sports fields and shopping centres
🚦 The good example we promised them when we handed over the keys

Every L-plate and P-plate you see today is someone's kid. Drive like it.

MONDAY 18 MAY β€” Make the pledge βœ‹

One sentence. One promise.

"I will drive so others survive."

That's it. That's the pledge.

It's a commitment to slow down, to put the phone away, to look out for the workers in hi-vis, to make sure everyone you pass on the road gets home to the people waiting for them.

Our crews at STM live this pledge every single shift - but road safety is a team sport, and we need every Queenslander on the field this week.

Take 30 seconds. Make the pledge: roadsafetyweek.com.au

Remember the 1,300 πŸ•―οΈ

Today, National Road Safety Week 2026 begins.

Day one asks us to pause and remember the more than 1,300 people killed and 40,000+ seriously injured on Australian roads every year.

Each number is a name. A workmate. A parent. A child. A friend who didn't make it home.

This week, we're asking everyone behind the wheel - and everyone working alongside the road - to take the pledge: Drive So Others Survive.

Take a moment today. Light something yellow. Remember the 1,300.

National Road Safety Week starts tomorrow.

From 17 to 24 May, Australia comes together for National Road Safety Week - an annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group to remember those lost to road trauma and to recommit to keeping each other safe.

This year, the Queensland Government is the official national host- and as a Queensland traffic management company, that means a lot to us.

Every year, more than 1,300 people are killed and over 40,000 seriously injured on Australian roads. Behind every one of those numbers is a family, a workmate, a name remembered.

The pledge this year is simple: Drive So Others Survive.

For our crews, that's not a one-week message - it's every shift, every site, every cone laid down on every road across South East Queensland. But this week, we ask the same of everyone behind the wheel:

🚦 Slow down through worksites
🚦 Put the phone down
🚦 Plan your trip, plan your rest
🚦 Look out for the people in hi-vis - they're someone's family too

Look out for landmarks across Queensland lighting up yellow this week πŸ’›
