Checks, please. 🤍

One of our favourite parts of designing a custom home is finding those details that give a space personality without making it feel like it belongs to a particular trend or moment in time.

Enter the checkerboard floor.

Checks may be trending right now, but they’re far from new. This classic pattern has been used in interiors for centuries, which is exactly why we love it. It can feel traditional, contemporary, playful or sophisticated depending on the materials, scale and colour combination you choose.

In these homes, the checks create just enough contrast to make a statement, while still sitting beautifully within the home’s timeless palette.

Black and white might be the classic, but checkerboard floors can be created in soft neutrals, warm creams and terracottas, greens, greys or natural stone combinations allowing us to interpret the look specifically for the home and the people who live there.

Because when we help our clients through the home design process, we’re not simply selecting finishes that look beautiful together. We’re looking for opportunities to add character, personality and those unexpected details that make their home feel distinctly theirs.

Trends come and go. Great details have staying power.

White Farmhouse Design Considerations

When we are designing a home, first and foremost natural light is our focus. A big win on this home was successfully orienting all the living areas and the bedrooms to capitalise on the northern aspect of the site.

We’re at the tail end of this build. Stay tuned for more 🚨

This is what acreage design and build should be, a space that earns its keep. Wide verandahs for long summers. Proportions that suit the land, generous, grounded and never just for show.

Transitional farmhouse done right is a balance between the soul of a classic modern farmhouse & clean contemporary lines.

Three generations of custom home building. Contact us today to help you design and build a home worth coming home to.

Which bathroom speaks to you?

1. Masculine and moody
2. Classic
3. Fresh and pretty
4. Nature inspired

Tell us your style, and we’ll make it work in your home.
Want to mix your finishes, like we’ve done here? We can do so while still making every space speak to each other across the home. That cohesion doesn’t happen by accident. It’s planned from the first drawing.

It’s the difference between a custom home and a cookie cutter one.

Which style is you?

Oak, steel, stone and brass. A winning combination of interior finishes speaking to nature.

Threaded through the kitchen, living and foyer of our Transitional Farmhouse, warm oak, black steel, natural stone and a soft brass glow.

Beautiful interiors aren’t about the trend of the moment. They’re about materials that belong together and only get better with time.

Which would you live with forever — oak, stone, steel or brass? 👇

“Welcome home”
Who wouldn’t like to come home to this??
What’s the vision for your new home? The perfect place to start is that first step through the front door.

Factors to keep in mind when you’re designing the entry to your home include:

1. incorporating a void if you can to create height and allow more light to filter through to both your entry and first floor.

2. Allowing for a 2metre wide entry & foyer if your block allows it. This enables you to have a large 1.2m wide door or double doors and a standard size 40cm deep console table in the foyer.

3. Wainscoting or wall panelling to formalise the area. While it’s nice to be able to continue this through the whole house, sometimes budget doesn’t allow it, so if you’re going to put it anywhere the foyer is always a good investment.

It’s the little things that make all the difference. Contact us today to help you design and build your new home.

When we design your home, we take a holistic approach. Interiors matter just as much as exteriors and the two are designed to work together from the very first line on the plan.

That means thinking about how morning light will fall across your kitchen bench. Where the joinery needs to sit so it feels effortless years from now. How a room flows into the next, and how your family will actually live in the space long after the build is done.

Much of it you won’t consciously notice. That’s the point. When the finer details are considered properly the first time, the whole home simply feels right.

Hamptons isn’t trending.

It’s moved past being a trend and become a cemented architectural style in Australian home design, much like Federation, Georgian, French Provincial or Mediterranean, particularly here in Sydney.

Of course, it’s evolved. The overly themed, coastal interpretation has given way to something more refined: cleaner façades, warmer whites, natural stone, restrained detailing. Contemporary floor plans behind traditionally inspired exteriors. And perhaps that’s why it endures. A well-designed Hamptons home was never about following a trend, it’s about proportion, symmetry, craftsmanship and creating a home with presence.

Trends tell us what’s popular right now. Great architectural styles have longevity. We think Hamptons has well and truly earned its place among them.

At Rosewood Homes, we’ve been designing and building Hamptons homes across Sydney for years, adapting the style to suit Australian lifestyles, individual sites and, most importantly, the people who live in them.

Because timeless design doesn’t need to trend.
