Bringing this Haybuster tub grinder back to life.
This project started out as what looked to be a fairly straightforward floor replacement. But as is often the case with older machinery, once the cutting began, the true extent of the rust became apparent.
The original floor framework was beyond repair, so everything had to come out. Days were spent removing heavy rust scale, exposing clean steel, treating the remaining structure and rebuilding the machine from the ground up.
Using upgraded 100 PFC and 100 × 75 × 5 angle, a completely new floor support framework was fabricated before installing a new 4 mm floor. Because the original access hatch had deteriorated beyond recognition, a new one was designed and fabricated from scratch using a combination of ingenuity and reference photos.
The repairs didn’t stop there. Additional structural repairs were completed throughout the machine, including rebuilding rusted framework at the front of the grinder, repairing the unloading elevator mounting crossmember and replacing the heavily corroded lower section around the bowl.
To finish the job, the customer supplied new unloading augers, auger tray, conveyor belt and hammer mill hammers, before the machine received a fresh coat of paint ready to head back into service.
It’s always satisfying taking a machine that looked well past its best and giving it a new lease on life.
