🔥 LATEST: QFD updates for the Gulf and welcome rain for a tired region

According to the latest ABC emergency updates, fire and smoke warnings remain active in parts of the Gulf, including an ‘Avoid Smoke’ warning for the Croydon region. Recent storms have sparked multiple fires across Normanton, Karumba and surrounding country over the past month.

On the ground, locals have been doing the heavy lifting. As Troy Gallagher said earlier in the week, crews finally “got a bend in it” after four long days battling a fire that’s burnt a lot of country.

A huge thank you to every neighbour, landholder, volunteer and the good blokes from Bush Heli-Services who’ve been working nonstop. The community effort has been enormous.

The good news: rain over the weekend has offered some much-needed relief and helped settle hotspots right across the region. Fire services have indicated that conditions have eased but continue to monitor remaining burns.

Stay safe, and here’s hoping this rain keeps coming. 🌧💛💚
