⚡ Battery Rebate Changes from 1 July 2025 – What You Need to Know ⚡

The current NSW battery rebate is available for installations completed on or before Monday 30 June 2025. This rebate cannot be combined with the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which begins Tuesday 1 July 2025.

From 1 July 2025, the NSW battery rebate will no longer be available.

From our perspective, this is not a big problem. The NSW rebate, which is based on PRC (peak reduction certificates), is/was a low-value rebate, and we have seen that the rebate value has been falling considerably over the last six months. The certificate price started at $2.00 each and is now $1.40. That's a 30% drop!

BREAKING NEWS...

It's true, sunshine has officially returned to the Coffs Coast! In emotional scenes right across the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers of NSW, builders, tradies and home owners with solar panels installed have been seen rejoicing in bright sunshine for the first time for a couple of months. One local resident commented that he had given up hope of seeing the sun again. Another local builder said that he had investigated the merits of using a 200m2 mega marquee to cover his building site. Good news for everyone, we can get back to work and start harnessing that clean & cheap energy again!

Federal Battery Rebate Confirmed – Launching 1 July 2025

Following the Labor Party’s win in the 2025 federal election, the Government will roll out the Cheaper Home Batteries Program — a $2.3 billion initiative to make battery storage more accessible for Australian homes and businesses. The program will officially launch on 1 July 2025.

🔋 What We Know So Far:
Up to 30% Off Battery Costs: Eligible households, small businesses, and community facilities will receive approximately one-third off the cost of a home battery.

Example: A standard 12.8 kWh battery could attract a rebate of up to $4,300!

Eligibility Criteria:

Batteries must be between 5 kWh and 50 kWh in size.

Must be VPP-capable (Virtual Power Plant), though joining a VPP is optional.

One rebate per premises.

Program Delivery: Managed through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), which delivers current solar panel incentives.

Stackable Savings: The Federal rebate may be combined with the NSW battery Rebate, bringing the total rebates and subsidies on a 12.8 kWh battery to around $6,000!

Please note that for the double dipping of both rebates to apply, the NSW Government will need to amend the existing rules of their PRC battery rebate. We have been told this is currently under review. We will keep you posted.

Pre-July Installations: Batteries installed before 1 July 2025 may still qualify, as long as they are not switched on until the rebate program begins.

We will likely get further clarification on this over the next few weeks.
