Congratulations Karingal Heights Primary School!

These amazing students collected their plastic waste (PP - #5) which was then recycled and reused to make new School chairs!!

The plastic waste we generate is inherently recyclable and highly sought after by manufacturers across various industries ranging from food packaging through to fences and even School furniture!

A wonderful, collective effort by Karingal Heights Primary School - The first school in Australia to have their waste collected, recycled and used to produce school chairs!

Here’s a great local story.

Last year, Karingal Heights Primary School students were learning about the importance of the circular economy.

They decided to start a grade 5&6 campaign to recycle and reuse plastic.

Students collected wrapping from lunches, ice cream tubs and anything that could get their hands onto.

The school then teamed up with recycling companies Martogg and Sebel to turn the unwanted plastic into something useful.

The result?

Brand new school chairs for students - made from the very plastic they recycled.

We’ll done 👏👏

“Waste is not a waste, but a misplaced resource.” ✔💚♻

Insightful article by Alliance to End Plastic Waste! Addresses plastic's versatility & centrality to our lives- clothes cars construction etc. is often the best in terms of cost, durability, and use.

But is only as effective as the system it operates in. (collect/dispose) come at a cost. As a result, economies lose billions, hence retaining via like recycling—is better for the environment, but fundamentally is good business.

The gap to a is "financing to build and maintain the infrastructure for collection, processing, recycling, and disposal of waste." However, with recycling scale, it becomes and ! A will be challenging but success requires commitment from , business leaders, and consumers.
Step 1 is education; more people aware leads to consumer pressure on to use and consumers buying recycled.

Plastic is a highly versatile material and it touches every aspect of our lives. It is in the packaging we use, the cars we drive, the clothes we wear. It sits at the centre of the modern world, in communication networks, computers, and construction. As great as plastic is—when it has ceased being...

A recycling system that creates recycled plastic is almost always less energy and greenhouse gas intensive than the conventional fossil resource extraction, refinement, and manufacturing processes that create virgin plastic.

Using recycled plastic inherently decreases consumption of fossil resources over the packaging life cycle, since the fossil feedstocks used to create virgin plastic are not attributed to recycled plastic.

The system of plastic recycling is gaining increased emphasis as a strategy to prevent the mismanagement of plastic packaging waste that results in plastic pollution in terrestrial and marine environments. The use of recycled plastic creates market pull for these materials and is critical to ensuring that system remains robust and effective.

Australians throw away 3.5m tonnes of plastic each year, but only about 9.4% makes it to a recycling facility! That converts to about 150 bags per year for every person on earth. If we joined these plastic bags together, they would circumnavigate the globe 4,200 times.

However, recycling just 1 BOTTLE saves enough energy to power a computer for 25 min- HOW COOL IS THAT!! Plastic isn’t inherently bad, its changed all our lives but we have to also leverage the value it has at its end of life so and discover the infinite possibilities ♻

Insight 2- Consumer’s want information on how to recycle right as there is still vast confusion. Product packaging and local councils are the two most common sources of recycling information that consumers turn to.

Therefore its imperative to not use convoluted and mixed terminology on packaging as this will increase scepticism and accusations of .

If your product’s packaging creates obvious waste, that’s an opportunity too. Changing packaging takes time, so now may be the time to begin.

Most of all, whatever you choose to do, do it authentically and with real impact. And the best part is consumers WILL PAY MORE! 💰♻✔

“The Power and The Passion Brand” report goes into great detail about what issues Australians most passionate about and how do brands have the power to create change? Consumers are concerned about climate change, oceans and plastic waste, so they know what they care about but do they have the "power"..

Well with almost 4/5 of us believing brands and products should support causes or make changes to their products that address social and environmental issues suggests increasing loyalty towards brands that do.

Aussie want the TRIPE Threat
1. Aussie Made
2. Carbon Neutral and
3. Made from 100% recycled packaging!!
