⚠️From 1 December 2026, Australia will adopt a new Workplace Exposure Limit of 0.01 mg/m³, as an eight-hour TWA for diesel particulate matter measured as respirable elemental carbon.
Now is the time for fire and emergency service facilities to review how diesel exhaust is controlled within their vehicle bays.

**New welding fume exposure limits demand the immediate deployment of stringent fume mitigation strategies**

From 1 December 2026, Australia will transition from Workplace Exposure Standards (WES) to Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) for airborne contaminants.

What does this mean?

The revised framework introduces new and significantly stricter exposure limits for several contaminants associated with welding and related fabrication processes. Businesses should review their exposure risks and control measures including fume and dust extraction before the new limits take effect.
