Hi makers,

Just wanted to plug this awesome initiative happening at the moment within the ceramics community.

Australia's creative industry is under threat from funding cuts and COVID restrictions, meaning there is no better time to support our community.

Stay safe,

‘Clay for Clay Community’ is a project aimed at assisting the global community of potters and ceramic artists in increasing their online profile and sales generation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The project works on the concept of ‘paying it forward’. It follows a very simple structure.

Hosted on Instagram, artists can post on up to five works (at any one time) on their account, using as one of their hashtags. Anyone can buy the work, and artists keep the earnings. Every time the artist receives five sales, they buy one work from another artist (valued at 20% of total of the five sales). All clay workers from around can participate and any buyers can take part.

Follow and view on Instagram to see all works being offered for sale.

To our makers,

Since its establishment in 2016, MAKE CLUB has held a diverse range of workshops from screen-printing to papermaking to projection mapping.

Memorable project highlights include the redesign of the Arthouse Kitchen menu, 'Celestial Pancake' at VIVID 2019 and exhibiting in Three Foot Square and the Emerging Artist + Designer Award.

At the last AGM in Nov 2019, MAKE CLUB extensively consulted with making staff, executives and members. Ultimately, we made the difficult decision of dissolving the club.

We apologise for the extremely delayed notice and confusion.

Thank you to all previous executives, workshop leads and staff who have contributed to MAKE CLUB over its 3 years of operation.

And finally, many thanks to all the members who participated in MAKE CLUB's projects, parties, workshops, etc. We would not have gotten this far without your support and engagement with the club.

On behalf of all executives, MAKE CLUB wishes all makers the best of luck and success into the future. Keep your making passions and inspire the world with your fire.

🌟Highlights of 2019 - Celestial Pancake 🌟

Participating in Vivid Light 2019 with Celestial Pancake was a big thing for MAKE CLUB.

For this suspended audio-visual installation, MAKE CLUB was involved with idea conceptualisation, renders and lighting design.

We worked with a suite of electrical and software engineers, sound designers, project managers and awesome team of volunteers.

At its core, “Transmute Voice" touts the ability of artists as storytellers. As communicative agents between scientists and broader audiences, we transmute voices and instigate change.

Thank you to all the makers who got involved in the project and brought it to life. .57 .rushbrook .avv , Luke Steller, Dominic Cheng, @ UNSW

From alien larvae to tunneled books, the works by MAKE Club makers all involve delicate treatment of ordinary materials. Playing with micro and macro scales, the works pique our curiosity and invite closer inspection.

In doing so, Transmute Voice emulates how Steller’s research into overlooked stromatolites in Pilbara, Western Australia yielded insights for exploring life on Mars. It revitalises our curiosity in the 'ordinary' environments we inhabit.
