🌿 GeoFish Biggest Saratoga Champions – CPC2025 🌿

There’s something special about Saratoga… prehistoric, elusive, and packed with power. While they don’t always steal the spotlight like barra, Top End fishos know just how iconic these billabong battlers really are. 💪

We’re proud to have sponsored this year’s Biggest Saratoga category at the Corroboree Park Challenge, and even prouder to recognise the legends who brought in the biggest Toga this year:

How good are these toga from Day 1! 😍 Teams have until 2:30pm today to get their final catches uploaded into Track My Fish – but we couldn’t resist sharing some of the beauties already on the board.

It’s shaping up to be a tight race for the Geofish Biggest Saratoga, with plenty of quality fish submitted. Who knows what Day 2 might bring… 👀

📍 Citizen Science in Action!
Ever wondered what info we actually collect when tagging Saratoga? 🤔 It’s more than just length and location…

Here’s what we record every single time:
📌 Tag number
📏 Length (cm)
⚖️ Weight (kg)
🌊 Water temp
📍 GPS coordinates
📅 Date + time
🛶 Depth
👤 Tagger name
📸 Photo proof
🗣️ Comments (for context or ID)

Over time, this detailed data helps paint a clear picture of how healthy our fish stocks and waterways are, and how things change across seasons and years.

🔁 If you recapture a tagged fish, leave the tag in and record:
– Tag number
– Length
– Date + location
– Any extra notes

It’s science, Territory style. And every tag makes a difference. 🎣💚

We hit Corroboree Billabong for a quick session adding to our Saratoga story. Every fish was carefully measured, weighed, tagged, and released back into the system with a new bit of pink bling 🎀.

We’re not just fishing — we’re helping paint the bigger picture. These tags give us clues about how far these fish travel, how fast they grow, and where they call home across the Top End.

If you’re out there and reel in a tagged toga, here’s what to do:
🎯 Note the tag number
📏 Measure the length
📍 Record the location
🕓 Jot down the date/time
… and then release them gently so they can keep cruising.

🎣 GEOFISH is back online!

We’ve been a bit quiet on socials, but the work hasn’t stopped. Out on the water, behind the lens, and in the data room, our team’s been capturing the stories that matter for Territory fishing and our waterways.

From tagging Saratoga to monitoring fish habitats, working alongside local anglers and communities, exploring new ways to share the science. There’s a lot more to Geofish than meets the eye. And we’re just getting started.
