Recapture record: GF10331 was tagged on 27 August 2023 at 52 cm, then recaptured 25 days later, on 22 September 2023, also measuring 52 cm.

The approximate waterway route between the recorded locations is about 50 m. It is not a confirmed fish track.

One recapture does not tell us how all Saratoga move, but it adds another carefully recorded point in time to the long-term program.

On 21 August 2020, the first five Saratoga in our program records were tagged. Across those first few months, 23 new tag records were added.

That modest start became a long-term Northern Territory record, built through careful fieldwork and reports from anglers. More than 700 Saratoga had been tagged as at May 2026.

Recent tagging sessions at Corroboree Billabong have added 23 new Saratoga records to the program record.

Every fish is measured, tagged and released, with the details checked before they are added to the long-term dataset. The value comes over time, when records can be compared carefully across sessions and years.

Recapture report: GF10984

Another Saratoga recapture for the program, and another useful piece of the puzzle.

GF10984 was first tagged by Shane Penny on 12 October 2025 in Corroboree Billabong, NT measuring 54 cm.

It was recaptured by Melita McKinnon on 30 May 2026, measured again at 57 cm, and safely released.

What this recapture tells us:
🐟 230 days at large
🐟 3 cm growth, or about 0.013 cm per day
🐟 About 600 m of straight-line movement between the two recorded locations

Two records do not tell us the full path the fish travelled, but each recapture adds to our understanding of Saratoga growth and movement in the systems we study.
