JOB DESCRIPTION: Yardsman/ Labourer.
POSITION OVERVIEW: Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Yardsman / Labourer to support the daily operations of our busy welding and mechanical workshop. This role involves maintaining a clean and organised yard and workshop, assisting tradesmen, handling materials and equipment, and ensuring the workplace operates safely and efficiently.
The successful applicant will be physically fit, safety focused, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and willing to assist wherever required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Yard & Workshop Duties
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workshop, yard, and storage areas
General housekeeping including sweeping, rubbish removal, spill clean-up, and bin management
Assist with loading and unloading trucks and deliveries
Move equipment, materials, trailers, and components around the workshop and yard
Prepare work areas for tradesmen and assist with workshop set-up
Wash and clean machinery, trucks, fuel tankers, trailers, and equipment
Ensure tools and equipment are returned and stored correctly
Labouring & Trade Assistance
Assist boilermakers, welders, mechanics, and trades assistants as required
Hold and position materials during fabrication and repair work
Grinding, sanding, basic preparation, and other manual labour tasks
Assist with mechanical servicing and repair preparation work
Operate basic workshop tools and equipment safely
Stores & Deliveries
Receive and check incoming parts and deliveries
Assist with stock control and organisation of consumables and materials
Deliver and collect parts, equipment, or materials when required
Safety & Compliance
Follow all workplace health and safety procedures
Report hazards, incidents, or damaged equipment immediately
Use PPE correctly and maintain a safe work environment
Participate in toolbox meetings and safety initiatives
Skills & Experience
Previous experience in a workshop, yard, labouring, or industrial environment preferred
Forklift licence desirable (or willingness to obtain)
Current driverās licence required
Ability to work safely and follow instructions
Good work ethic and reliable attendance
Physically fit and capable of manual handling
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
