From AI adoption to automation and electrification, it was exciting to see that the focus is shifting from experimentation to real-world, scalable outcomes at the AusIMM Technology Forum in Brisbane.

The event brought together industry leaders to explore how technology is being applied across the mining sector today. It was fantastic to hear unique perspectives from Darryn Fisher and Chris Sutton (MST Global), Matthew Gray (Australian Diversified Engineering), Amos Park (Dyno Nobel), Shayne Phillips (Dell Technologies), and our director, Dush Wimal.

One of the key takeaways from the program was that over half of organisations were already using multiple AI applications, with reported 34% gains in operational efficiency and 28% revenue uplift.

Thank you to the AusIMM for the opportunity to share our insights, and to Principal Partner Accenture Australia, the Platinum partners, Presenting Partner AECOM, and the attendees for contributing to a highly valuable discussion.

We look forward to the next forum!

🔓 Unlocking automation possibilities through UFR-Sandvik AutoMine integrations 🔗

Thanks to International Mining Editor, Daniel Gleeson, for visiting Universal Field Robots HQ in Brisbane to explore how the UFR-infused AutoMine platform will underwrite further safety and productivity gains into the future.

UFR Director, Dush Wimal, is confident that Sandvik can take a leadership position in the zero-entry market, automating equipment that the industry did not think was possible.

Referencing large mass mining applications, he pointed to increasing the level of automation to tackle hang-ups and secondary blasting needs.

“The DB331 project we’re working on currently is a good example of that,” he told IM.

This non-iSeries mobile drill-and-charge unit has been fitted with UFR on-board hardware and integrated into the AutoMine software platform to enable tele-remote operation from the surface or less-hazardous areas than the current status quo.

“This isn’t a theoretical exercise,” he added. “Four of these DB331 units are heading to a customer in Indonesia to be integrated into their wider AutoMine ecosystem.”

UFR Haulage achieves 2,000km milestone 🎯

Team UFR was fortunate to film project update footage recently for our collaboration with GOLD FIELDS on the world’s first OEM-agnostic autonomous underground haul truck fleet at Granny Smith mine in Laverton, Western Australia.

Gold Fields and Universal Field Robots proudly partnered to retrofit our autonomy kit onto their Epiroc MT65 haul trucks, enabling autonomous haulage of ore to the surface during shift change, recovering valuable time that would otherwise be lost. To date, the trucks have travelled over 2,000km.

Our sincere thanks to the team at Gold Fields and Granny Smith mine for their hospitality and generosity, sharing valuable time to discuss the project milestones achieved to date and what the future holds.

Watch this space for the release of our suite of project update videos, including interviews with:
💡 Gold Fields Manager Technology Programs, Shannon McDermott
💡 Gold Fields Unit Manager: Underground Mining, Brodie Edwards
💡 Gold Fields Coordinator: Communications & Digital Technology, Todd Holden
💡 Gold Fields Control System Specialist, Troy Williams
💡 Gold Fields Haul Truck Operators, Jaiden Budding and Leon-Paul Grimbeek
💡 UFR Director, Dush Wimal
💡 UFR Head of Product Line and R&D, Ty Osborne
