🏆 **Industry Excellence Award 2026**

We are proud to share that Air Environment's PlumeMapper and OdourRadar platform has received the Industry Excellence Award at the 2026 Clean Air and Odour Conference (CASANZ) in Cairns.

This recognition is a tremendous honour and reflects the hard work, innovation and dedication of our team in developing practical tools that help industry, regulators and communities better understand and manage environmental impacts.

A big thank you to CASANZ (Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand) and our industry peers for this recognition.

One of the key messages emerging from this year's conference was that effective odour assessment requires multiple lines of evidence.

Understanding community concerns, experiences and perceptions is just as important as technical measurements and modelling. Managing environmental impacts is about more than comparing predicted odour concentrations against a regulatory criterion. It requires a holistic understanding of what communities are experiencing and why.

This philosophy has been central to the development of PlumeMapper and OdourRadar, which bring together environmental data, field observations and community feedback to provide a more complete picture of environmental impacts.

Most importantly, thank you to the talented Air Environment team who continue to drive innovation and excellence in environmental science and technology. This achievement would not have been possible without your passion, expertise and commitment.

We look forward to continuing to develop solutions that support better environmental outcomes and stronger community engagement.

🌈 Beautiful Rainbow Alert! 🌈

As environmental scientists, getting out of the office for field work provides a valuable opportunity to experience the beauty—and variability—of the atmosphere.

Out in Melbourne’s industrial heartland this week, Air Environment’s field team was back on the ground delivering real‑time odour surveillance—rain or shine.

The photo captures the reality of the job: a keen sense of smell, high-vis gear, wet conditions, and a rainbow breaking through the rain during today’s late afternoon survey run. Field work doesn’t stop for the weather—and in many cases, these conditions produce the most informative dispersion behaviour.

Using Air Environment’s PlumeMapper app, the team recorded odour observations alongside live meteorological data, enabling precise spatial and temporal mapping of odour plumes as they developed. Each observation contributes to a defensible dataset, linking what is experienced on the ground with what the atmosphere is doing in real time.

This is where field science meets technology—turning real-time odour observations into structured, evidence-based insights that support compliance, investigation, and proactive management.

Rain, wind shifts, and everything in between—captured and mapped.

Introducing OdourRadar: The New Air Quality Tool Powered by You

We're excited to announce that OdourRadar has joined your community's efforts to improve local air quality.

What is OdourRadar?

OdourRadar is a free, science-based platform developed by Australian air quality experts to help communities report and track odour issues. This easy-to-use website enables residents to document annoying odours while building a comprehensive picture of local air quality conditions.

How it works:

• Report odours by recording date, time, location, type, and intensity

• Create an optional account to track your reports over time (and odour diary)

• View reports from other community members on an interactive map

• Access transparent, real-time data about local air quality issues

Why it matters:

OdourRadar facilitates collaboration between communities, industry, and government regulators by providing a shared database of odour complaints. This transparency helps identify patterns, understand local air quality impacts, and enables faster response to environmental concerns.

The platform serves as your personal odour diary while contributing to a larger community dataset that can inform decision-making and environmental management.

Get involved:

Visit www.OdourRadar.org to start reporting and become a citizen scientist helping to improve air quality for everyone in our community.

Together, we can build a clearer picture of our local environment and work toward better air quality outcomes.

Online odour reporting system with real-time tracking, weather data integration, and location mapping. Help monitor environmental odours from industrial, commercial, and residential sources.
