🌈 Pride in Diversity | Inclusive Education Forum #4

Whittlesea Tech School was proud to host our fourth Inclusive Education Forum, Pride in Diversity, in collaboration with Whittlesea Community Connections, Melbourne Polytechnic and Hume Whittlesea LLEN.

The forum began with a heartfelt keynote from Dr Catriona Nguyen Robertson, followed by a powerful student panel sharing lived experiences in education settings. Attendees also gained valuable insights through workshops exploring LGBTQIA+ inclusion, intersectionality, and trans and gender diverse awareness.

A huge thank you to our partners, presenters and attendees for helping create meaningful conversations and stronger pathways towards inclusive learning environments for all.

🎙️✨ What a fantastic two days with the Koorie Academy of Excellence!

Over the school holidays, students from the Koorie Academy of Excellence explored the world of podcasting through hands-on workshops in topic ideation, scriptwriting, recording and media production. Inspired by the 2026 NAIDOC theme, "50 Years of Deadly", students developed and recorded their own original podcasts, sharing stories, perspectives and ideas that matter to them.

This year, students also heard from special guests Aunty Rieo Ellis and Alkira Clark (Ms NAIDOC 2026), and Liana Liddle (NAIDOC Youth Award Winner), who shared their stories, experiences and insights, helping to inspire and inform the next generation of storytellers.

The program culminated in students bringing their ideas to life through original podcast episodes that celebrated culture, community and the power of young voices.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this powerful celebration of creativity, culture and student voice possible.

A creative Term 3 for our Fellowship students! 🎨

Across two Fellowship sessions this term, students had the opportunity to learn from two guest presenters, experiment with new creative techniques, and continue developing their own individual projects.

In Session 1, guest presenter Lara Chamas shared a creative practice exploring post-colonial and migrant narratives within the context of cultural identity. Students worked with air-dry clay, discovering how materials and making can become tools for exploring ideas and telling stories.

Session 2 took a different approach, with guest presenter Fyo introducing students to silhouette-making as a quick and effective way to capture a theme, character or concept. From there, students explored the journey from physical artwork to digital manufacturing, with selected pieces vectorised and prepared for laser cutting.

Both sessions finished with dedicated project time, giving students the opportunity to continue experimenting, creating and developing their own Fellowship projects.

A fantastic mix of artist-led learning, hands-on making, digital fabrication and student-led creativity!

We bring Term 3 to a close with one of our most anticipated events of the year: our annual Inclusive Education Forum, held in collaboration with the Hume Whittlesea Local Learning and Employment Network (HWLLEN) Melbourne Polytechnic, and Whittlesea Community Connections.
A big thanks to our Tech School team for all their hard work this year, and to everyone who helped bring this event together. Special thanks to guests, Catriona Nguyen-Robertson Q***r Town ACON for sharing their knowledge and skills with us. Stay tuned for more snaps from the day.

Over two days in term 3, students from the Girls in STEM
program worked on their solutions to the challenges posed by our program partners. Students created nesting box enhancements, wombat mange medicine applicators, de-seeding machines, water tube carrying systems and visitor information guides. A huge thank you to our community partners who will now get to test the student prototypes in the field!

In collaboration with Whittlesea Community Connections, the Whittlesea Tech School hosted a Prepare Your Purple workshop on Thursday 27 August. This year's Wear It Purple Day theme "Colours of Courage" celebrates identity and self-expression. Students created a range of colourful merchandise and items that they could proudly wear for Wear It Purple Day.

Year 12 students from Lalor North Secondary College put their scientific skills to the test, investigating natural products and their potential to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria. A fantastic day of real-world STEM learning and discovery.

Congratulations to the Banyule Nillumbik Tech School team on delivering a fantastic AI in Education Symposium.
