This week is International Neurodiversity Pride Week!

As a proponent of inclusive education, Whittlesea Tech School believes it is important to understand the variety of challenges neurodivergent individuals face, as well as their unique strengths, in order to build successful inclusive learning spaces.

For many neurodivergent people, navigating environments designed around neurotypical expectations can require significant additional mental effort every day. Whether at school, work, or in the community, tasks that seem straightforward to some can involve constant adaptation, planning, and energy expenditure for others.

By designing learning experiences that are accessible, flexible, and foster diverse ways of thinking, all students have greater opportunities to participate, contribute, and succeed. Creating inclusive environments isn't about giving certain students an advantage, it's about ensuring every learner has the opportunity to thrive.

By recognising and valuing neurodiversity, we can build learning communities where every young person feels safe, supported, respected, and empowered to reach their potential.

We are excited to share that the Galada Community Centre will be exhibiting the work of students who recently visited the Tech School and created beautiful collages with visiting artist Tai Snaith. The works will be part of the official launch of the Outside Gallery at a free event 'Aurora After Dark' on Friday July 3rd. Details below:

To mark IDAHOBIT 2026 at the Whittlesea Tech School, students have explored messages of equity, justice and representation, and created their own designs to communicate their message. A huge thank you to Whittlesea Community Connections for your support and collaboration.

Last week we attended Careers Day Out in Shepparton alongside Banyule Nillumbik Tech School . The day provided over 2,000 secondary students from Greater Shepparton and the surrounding areas the opportunity to explore future careers and pathways in a variety of sectors.

It was fantastic to connect with young people, industry representatives, training providers, and local organisations all in one space. Events like this help students discover new possibilities, ask questions, and start thinking about where their interests and strengths could take them.

We’re proud to support students as they explore careers, build confidence, and imagine their futures beyond school.

Our Tech School was buzzing with excitement last week as Year 7 Science students from Lalor North Secondary College explored how biomimicry can inspire vehicle design. 🚗🐟🦅✈️

Using nature as their guide, students brought ideas to life through creative cardboard prototyping - testing, building, and iterating along the way.

This week at Whittlesea Tech School, local students participated in a collage art workshop with Melbourne artist Tai Snaith. Students learnt new skills in collage art-making and benefited from Tai’s insights into the career journey of a professional practicing artist.

The artworks created by students on the day explored the themes of identity, memory and place, and will be displayed as the opening exhibition of a new local outdoor gallery near Gallada Community Centre.

Thanks to the City of Whittlesea for organising such a fantastic event.

This week, our Remote & Virtual representative, Elissa, visited Hume Central College to help test out their brand new Sphero Bolts!

Students, many of whom had never tried coding before, dove right in, driving the Spheros around, tracing out paths on tablets, and experimenting with block-coding to navigate an obstacle course. It was great to see their curiosity and openness to trying out new technology.

We look forward to seeing all of Hume Tech School's amazing new programs in full swing once their building officially opens later this year.
