TACA Seminar Melbourne 2026

It was a pleasure to be invited to the recent Testing and Commissioning Association Inc. seminar in Melbourne, where Terry Plaisted and Steve Williams conducted a technical presentation on Expansion Systems and Closed Loop Deairation. From common problems to pressure settings and technological advancements, they answered the question “Do we really need an expansion tank?” and shared how best to optimise them.

Our new HydroWatch and Duraflex Smart Refill Unit were on display for live demonstrations, showcasing the benefits of backflow prevention and automatic refilling in real time. Both units play an integral role in energy management, system protection and efficiency.

Many thanks to the dedicated team at TACA for hosting a fantastic seminar, and to all of the attendees for their interest and enthusiasm.

120 Balmain Street is a premium commercial office space in Melbourne’s inner city. Designed with sustainability, energy efficiency and tenant requirements at its forefront, The Balmain Building has achieved 6-Star Green Star & 5.5 Star NABERS Energy ratings.

Automatic Heating supplied and commissioned an all-electric commercial HHW heat pump solution for this 13-level tower. Featuring highly efficient Revere AHGR32AW180 heat pumps, the heating hot water system utilises Full DC inverter technology for optimised reliability. With an ambient operating range of -35°C to 50°C, these Revere heat pumps achieve a high COP while ensuring tenant comfort even in extreme temperatures.

The Balmain Building’s commercial HHW system includes:

10 Meridian Link Condensing Water Heaters for Retrofit Project in Melbourne’s C*D

Supplied by Automatic Heating, the upgraded HHW system at 120 Spencer Street is up and running.
Featuring 10 highly efficient Type-A Meridian Link condensing water heaters, the upgraded solution reduces gas usage by up to 25% whilst increasing modulation and redundancy.
The pre-existing steam boilers were nearing end of life. Automatic Heating assisted with early-stage design, supply and commissioning to deliver a commercial retrofit solution that ensures long-term performance and reliability.
Meridian Link condensing water heaters are cascadeable up to 24 units, providing big power in a compact footprint. By configuring 10 Meridian Link water heaters into two banks, this retrofit system meets operational demand up to 1,500kW while also maximising plant room floor space.

👉 10 x Meridian Link Condensing Water Heaters
👉 2 x Hot Water Heater Cascade Controllers
👉 1000L Duraflex Expansion Tank
👉 Duraflex Smart Refill Unit

System Features:
✅ 98.5% net efficiency at 80°C
✅ 1,500kW output to meet operational demand
✅ Full BMS integration with RS485 connection directly to each boiler for HLI points
