Over the past 4 weeks, our rope access team has been undertaking a critical scope of work within an operational power station, carrying out detailed visual inspections of cladding and other non-structural building elements at height.

These are areas that are quite literally impossible to reach using conventional access methods. By utilising industrial rope access techniques, our technicians are able to safely and efficiently access complex structures and elevated zones without the need for extensive scaffolding or heavy plant.

Over the last four weeks alone, we have identified hundreds of specific locations where loose metal cladding and flashings were present. This is not a theoretical risk. Historically, loose cladding and metal flashings have detached during high winds and storm events, becoming airborne projectiles. These flying metal components pose a very real and serious threat to personnel safety. A single piece of metal cladding can cause severe injury or even fatality if it strikes someone at ground level. In addition, there is a significant risk of damage to critical plant, electrical systems, and delicate infrastructure essential to power station operations.

Our role on this project goes well beyond inspection. Our technicians have been meticulously inspecting all elevated and hard-to-reach areas, documenting and reporting hazardous findings in detail, and immediately carrying out rectification works where required. This proactive approach significantly reduces risk, helping to create a safer work environment for everyone on site while protecting vital assets.

This project highlights exactly why our industrial rope access services are such an effective solution for industrial inspections:

• Safety first: Rope access has an excellent safety record when performed by trained and certified technicians. Our systems are fully redundant, and our teams work to strict procedures and risk controls.

• Efficiency: Rope access allows rapid mobilisation and access without the delays associated with scaffolding er****on or crane scheduling. Inspections and repairs can often be completed in a single mobilisation.

• Minimal disruption: In live environments such as power stations, maintaining operations is critical. Rope access enables work to be carried out with minimal impact on surrounding activities and infrastructure.

• Cost-effective: Reduced equipment, shorter project durations, and targeted access translate into significant cost savings for clients without compromising safety or quality.

Most importantly, our rope access services allow problems to be identified early—before they escalate into serious incidents. Identifying and securing loose cladding today can prevent catastrophic outcomes tomorrow.

At Highpoint Solutions, we’re proud of the professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to safety our team has demonstrated on this project. Ensuring people go home safe at the end of the day, while protecting critical infrastructure, is at the core of everything we do.

If you’re responsible for managing assets at height or maintaining complex industrial facilities, proactive inspection campaigns and rectification works using Highpoint Solutions rope access services can make all the difference.

The Highpoint Solutions crew getting it done 💪

Air Cooled Condensor (ACC) Units radiate significant heat through the exchanger, which happens to be right next to our work area 🥵, with air temperatures in excess of 45°C.

High risk work areas like these require detailed safe systems of work, solid rescue plans, and very good hydration 💧

Attention!‼️ Homeowners with Rooftop Solar Panels ☀️

Rooftop solar panels are a powerful investment in clean energy and long-term savings — but like any electrical system, they require regular care to stay safe and efficient. Thermal imaging (electrical thermography) is a proven, non-invasive way to monitor the health of rooftop solar arrays and associated electrical components.

Highpoint Solutions provide highly experienced and certified electrical thermographers, with over a decade of experience in the field, and we recommend annual inspections for every homeowner with rooftop solar. Here’s why.

Why annual thermal inspections matter:

Solar panels and their electrical connections operate under varied conditions: sun, heat, moisture, and thermal cycling can stress components over time. Defects such as hotspots, string failures, or a single faulty panel can reduce system output, increase fire risk, and lead to costly repairs if undetected.

Thermal imaging reveals temperature anomalies invisible to the eye, allowing our thermographers to pinpoint problems before they escalate.

For homeowners, an annual thermographic inspection provides peace of mind — confirming the array is performing safely and efficiently and protecting your investment.

Common rooftop solar issues thermal imaging finds:

✅ Hot spots in panels: Internal cell or connection faults create localised heating that can lead to delamination, reduced power, or ignition risk. Thermal cameras quickly identify these hotspots so panels can be replaced or repaired.
✅ String failures and mismatch: Underperforming strings or mismatched panels produce temperature differences along the array. Thermography highlights abnormal strings or panels with lower output or overheating cells.
✅ Faulty panels or bypass diodes: Damaged cells and bypass diode failures show as hot areas that indicate electrical stress or partial shading issues. Early detection prevents further degradation.
✅ Loose or corroded connectors: Poor connections at junctions, MC4 connectors, or combiner boxes produce elevated temperatures and are common precursors to arcing or fires.
✅ Uneven shading effects: Partial shading can create reverse bias and hot spots; thermography helps locate shading-induced thermal anomalies so trimming or repositioning solutions can be applied.

Other common system failures and thermal imaging applications:

✅ Inverters: Inverters convert DC to AC and are critical to system operation. Overheating components, loose connections on AC or DC terminals, and internal cooling failures show up as thermal irregularities. Thermography helps identify failing components, poor ventilation, or overloaded circuits before inverter failure occurs.
✅ Distribution boards and breaker panels: Overloaded breakers, loose busbar connections, or failing breakers generate heat. Thermal scans of distribution boards reveal hotspots at breakers, lugs, and busbars that indicate potential overloads or impending failure.
✅ DC isolators and switchgear: Faulty or poorly connected DC isolators heat up under load. Thermal imaging can quickly detect elevated temperatures at isolators and switchgear, highlighting maintenance needs to reduce fire and safety risk.
✅ Combiner boxes and junction boxes: These enclosures collect strings and house fuses or connectors. Corrosion, loose lugs, or blown fuses produce distinctive thermal signatures detectable during an inspection.
✅ Cable runs and connectors: Overloaded or damaged cables and poorly crimped connectors generate heat along their run. Thermography provides a fast way to scan for hot spots along conduits and trays without dismantling the system.
✅ Roof penetrations and mounting hardware: While not electrical, poorly installed or corroded mounts can stress panels and wiring. A thermal inspection can reveal temperature anomalies related to mechanical stresses or moisture ingress that affect electrical performance.

What to expect from a professional thermographic inspection 🤔

A thorough inspection by Highpoint Solutions includes a visual assessment, infrared scan under load conditions (ideally during peak generation), and diagnostic interpretation by certified thermographers. We deliver a clear report with annotated thermal images, severity ratings, recommended corrective actions, and prioritised maintenance suggestions. Our approach focuses on safety, compliance, and maximizing system uptime and efficiency.

Protect your home and investment!

Rooftop solar delivers significant benefits, but complacency about maintenance can leave homeowners exposed to performance losses and safety hazards. Annual thermal imaging inspections are a cost-effective, proactive measure to detect faults early, reduce fire risk, and keep your system producing reliably.

Highpoint Solutions combines advanced thermography, industry certifications, and real in-field experience to help homeowners protect their investments and keep their systems running safely.

Bringing in the big guns for a leak repair job on the Sunshine Coast 💪

When it comes to waterproofing concrete or block walls, success doesn’t just come from the membrane—it starts with the surface beneath it.

This is why wet blasting is such an effective preparation method. By combining water and abrasive media, wet blasting removes old coatings, laitance, and contaminants while keeping dust under control. The process not only cleans but also creates the right surface profile, giving waterproof membranes the best possible foundation to bond to.

Why does this matter? If surfaces aren’t properly prepared, membranes can struggle to adhere, leading to bubbling, peeling, or water ingress over time. In contrast, a clean and well-profiled substrate ensures that the applied system performs exactly as intended, protecting the structure for years to come.

Cutting corners on preparation may seem like a time-saver, but it often results in costly repairs down the track. Investing in proper wet blasting preparation sets the project up for durability, longevity, and peace of mind.

Remember:

1. Surface prep is non-negotiable.

2. Wet blasting delivers clean, profiled surfaces ready for membranes.

3. A well-prepared substrate means lasting waterproofing performance.

Do the preparation right, and the results will speak for themselves.

It's the Highpoint Solutions way 👌
