PremieHealth successfully held business discussions with Medela last week. The meeting, held at our HQ within Jumar Bioincubator, focused on strategies to enhance the care and outcomes for preterm infants, underscoring our shared commitment to this important cause.

We are excited to continue to engage with Medela—an industry leader known for its dedication to improving maternal and neonatal health—to explore innovative approaches that will directly benefit preterm babies and their families. This collaborative effort represents not only an exchange of expertise but also a powerful step forward in advancing healthcare solutions for the most vulnerable newborns. We look forward to working closely together to drive meaningful change and set new standards of excellence in neonatal care.

It’s been a busy six months at PremieHealth as we’ve settled into our lab and office space as proud residents of Jumar Bioincubator. During this time, we secured our first research grant and completed a successful study using in vitro models of neonatal care - significant milestones as we pursue our business and research objectives. We look forward to building on this momentum in the coming months as we continue to advance our mission at PremieHealth.

A preterm baby's early experience is very different to that of a term-born baby.
After birth, babies born at term, and most babies born late and moderately preterm, go to a normal maternity ward in the hospital with their mother and will be discharged home within a few days.
In contrast, doctors will take babies who are born very preterm to a neonatal intensive care unit, or NICU, where they might stay for several weeks or months. This experience not only impacts the child but can also be distressing for the parents. It is not uncommon for mothers to wait 6 weeks for their first cuddle, and taking the baby home is a huge milestone.
At PremieHealth we are here to help preterm babies to thrive in the NICU. We aim to fast-track the journey of the preterm baby into their families arms sooner.

Currently 10% of infants in the affluent world will be born premature, and this global problem is significantly worse in countries with less developed medical infrastructure.

Premature birth is the leading cause of under-5 child mortality and is an important cause of serious morbidity often associated with long hospital admissions. Moreover, the chronic health of these babies can be exacerbated with mature onset of a range of diseases.

Ironically, breast milk that successfully feeds term infants for the first months of life and sets them on a lifelong trajectory is not ideal for premature infants. Lactation did not evolve for the very different state of development of a premature human infant.

The primary focus of PremieHealth is to deliver the next generation of nutrition for growth and development of all preterm babies, particularly babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
