Yes, that is one of Henden’s custom-made light-blocking covers on his head. And no, before anyone asks, this is definitely not how it was designed to be used.

But you have to give Peter credit. When you work at Henden’s Upholstery & Canvas, apparently product testing means going above and beyond.

Spring cleaning, Henden’s style. 🌱🔧

While everyone else is cleaning out cupboards and getting the garden ready, spring can look a little different when you work with industry.

It might mean replacing a worn equipment cover, repairing canvas that’s taken a beating on site, sorting out better protection for tools and equipment or finally getting that custom piece manufactured that someone has been saying, “We really need something made for this.” 😂

At Henden’s Upholstery & Canvas, a lot of what we manufacture doesn’t come straight off a shelf. From heavy-duty tool bags and protective covers to specialised canvas products and custom industrial fabrication, the team makes solutions around what the customer actually needs.

So while spring might mean flowers and gardening to some...

Around here, it’s a pretty good excuse to repair, replace and get the gear sorted. 👍

Just another perfectly normal day at Henden’s… 😂

Nothing unusual here. Just what appears to be a person lying completely flat on the workbench waiting for someone to install the rest of them.

Thankfully, no employees were harmed, flattened or sewn into this post. 😄

This is actually a custom-made training dummy, manufactured for a client to use during emergency response and rescue training.

And while it might be one of the more unusual things to come through the Henden’s workshop, that’s also what makes our job interesting.

Our customers come to us with all sorts of ideas, requirements and challenges. Some are straightforward. Some require a bit of thinking.

And some apparently require us to make a person.

In an industrial environment, sometimes the smallest part of a system has a very big job to do.

Expansion joints are a good example.

When industrial equipment operates at high temperatures, constant heating and cooling creates movement throughout pipes, ducting and surrounding structures. That movement needs somewhere to go.

At Henden’s Upholstery and Canvas, we manufacture custom expansion joints incorporating inner silicone high-temperature cloth, designed to provide the flexibility and protection required in demanding operating conditions.

Each solution can be custom-made to suit the application, because industrial environments, equipment and operating requirements are rarely one-size-fits-all.

Luckily, our sister business Azure House is holding its Crystal & Mind Body Open Day Sunday 30 August from 9am-3pm, so help is close at hand.

There’ll be Reiki, Colour Healing and Healing Touch appointments available, Meditation Circles at 10am and 1pm, plus tons of new crystals, giftware and some Open Day only sales.

We’re thinking Peter might need a calming crystal for the workshop. The staff may need several.

There were plenty of people looking for a little shade after pounding the pavement at Sunday’s Port to Park Fun Run.

We were going to say some of them could have used a Henden’s sunshade…oh wait. They did. 😎

If you made your way down to East Shores after the run and fired up one of the BBQs, the large shade structures overhead were manufactured and installed by the team at Henden’s Upholstery & Canvas.

That’s one of the things we love about being a local Gladstone business. Sometimes our work becomes part of the places and facilities the whole community gets to enjoy, long after the job itself is finished.

Congratulations to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered and supported another fantastic Port to Park.

And to those who finished up under our shade at East Shores afterwards… good choice. ☀️
