Hazell Bros Group

Hazell Bros Group Hazell Bros is a family-owned & operated business, with operations in TAS & QLD employing 800+ staff

Hazell Bros was founded in 1944 by brothers Donald and Rowley Hazell as a transport business operating in Southern Tasmania. In the 1950s, Hazell Bros became involved in earthmoving projects and by the 1970s a civil construction arm began. Over the next 30 years, the business continued to expand throughout Tasmania, adding two dolerite quarries, seven concrete batch plants, a commercial building b

usiness and a crane company to the portfolio. In 2010, Hazell Bros expanded into Victoria and Queensland acquiring civil construction and plant hire operations and in 2013, was awarded a five-year contract with Nyrstar Port Pirie (SA) for materials handling and dust suppression activities. Hazell Bros remains a family-owned and operated business with second-generation brothers Geoffrey, Managing Director, and Robert, Director, owning and heading up operations. Throughout its 75-year history, Hazell Bros has expanded into and contracted from various operations to meet the prevailing economic conditions, however, has held true to its early beginnings maintaining transport service and civil construction operations throughout the years. During 2014/15 the commercial building, cranes and Victorian operations have been sold or scaled back to allow a focus on our core business functions: Civil Construction; Quarries; Concrete; and Industrial and Asset Services. Our 700-strong team of employees are the mainstay of the business and their diversity provides Hazell Bros with the skills to ensure we continually add value and exceed our clients’ expectations. Backed by our training and development programs, our people show a commitment to our safety culture based on family values and initiative. With a large privately owned fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment, plus extensive quarry and product interests, Hazell Bros enjoys a longstanding reputation for reliability in providing plant and equipment solutions and the supply of quality products and materials. Continually exploring new opportunities and constantly challenging the status quo will see us remain at the forefront of our respective businesses.

Hazell Bros is proud to partner with Tadpac Print to deliver our quarterly Communicator to over 850 employees.

Beyond their reliable print and mailout service, what really stands out is their purpose. As an Australian Disability Enterprise, Tadpac creates meaningful employment opportunities for people with disability while delivering high-quality outcomes.

Partnerships like this show how everyday business decisions can make a real difference—supporting more inclusive communities while still achieving strong commercial results.

A partnership that strongly aligns with our values, and one we’re proud to support.

📱💛 Continuing our support for digital inclusion in Tasmania
Hazell Bros has donated around 40 refurbished mobile phones to COTA Tasmania to help older Tasmanians stay connected with loved ones and access essential services.

Work is well underway at Emerald Airport, Queensland!

Hazell Bros is on site delivering critical airside and civil infrastructure for Highlands Regional Council as part of Council’s Emerald Airport RFDS Apron Upgrade. Delivered by Central Highlands Regional Council, this project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government, representing a significant investment in regional healthcare and emergency aviation capability across the Central Highlands.

Hazell Bros’ scope includes constructing new aircraft and helipad pavements, upgrading drainage, and delivering aircraft‑rated asphalt and concrete works. We are also installing airfield ground lighting, floodlighting, electrical infrastructure and completing line marking, with all the regulatory constraints of delivering a professional package within an operational airport environment. These works are designed to safely support aeromedical aircraft and helicopter movements, improve apron circulation, and enable fast, all‑weather patient transfers between aircraft and ambulances. Careful staging is allowing airport operations and emergency services to continue uninterrupted while works progress.

This project will strengthen Emerald Airport’s role as a key regional medical evacuation hub and improve access to critical healthcare services for communities across Central Queensland.

Hazell Bros is proud to be working with Central Highlands Regional Council to deliver infrastructure that makes a real difference for the Emerald community.

A big congratulations to Sarah, Quarry Operator – Leading Hand 👏

Sarah recently completed the RYLAH (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) program at Camp Clayton — a week focused on building confidence, teamwork and leadership skills alongside other young leaders from across Tasmania.

We were proud to support Sarah’s journey, with Damien, Northern Quarries Operations Manager, and Amy, People Partner, attending the graduation dinner to celebrate with her.

Awesome achievement, Sarah! 🙌

Hazell Bros has donated over 100 laptops to the WorkVentures Tech4Kids Program, where they’ll be refurbished and given a second life in the hands of students who might otherwise go without access to technology. 💻

Programs like this help close the digital divide - something that’s still a real challenge, especially here in Tasmania, where access, affordability and digital skills gaps remain among the largest in the country.

Most of the laptops will be restored and reused, and those that can’t be salvaged will be used for parts—helping keep valuable materials out of landfill.

A big thank you to our ICT team for coordinating and preparing the donation. A small step that can make a big difference for students, families and communities ❤️

We’re proud to share the successful completion of Warwick Landfill Cell 4 for Southern Downs Regional Council

Delivered 1.5 months ahead of program, the project involved the construction of a new lined landfill cell within a fully operational facility. The works required careful sequencing, strict environmental controls and close coordination to ensure uninterrupted landfill operations throughout construction.

Key elements of the works included:
- Large-scale bulk earthworks, including significant rock excavation
- Installation of a complex geosynthetic liner system (GCL and HDPE)
- Construction of an integrated leachate collection and transfer system

The timelapse video below captures the transformation from start to finish.

A big thank you to Southern Downs Regional Council, our trusted subcontractors and suppliers and the entire Hazell Bros delivery team for a great result.

🌟 Empowering Women Across Our Workforce 🌟
This year, Hazell Bros was proud to receive the 2026 Civil Contractors Federation (Tas) Women in Infrastructure Industry Award, recognising organisations that are driving change and championing gender equality across the infrastructure sector.
We’re proud of the achievements of the women at Hazell Bros and the contribution they make across our business. At the same time, we acknowledge that as an industry, there is still more to be done.

💙 Helping older Tasmanians stay connected 💙
Recently, Hazell Bros donated 25 Samsung tablets to COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania Generations Connect: Tech Together program, helping older members of our community stay connected, informed and engaged.

Delivered in partnership with WorkVenture Tech4Kids TAS project, the tablets will support older Tasmanians who currently don’t have access to suitable technology — making it easier to connect with family and friends, access essential services and take part in everyday digital life.

As a family company, Hazell Bros is proud to give back to the communities where we live and work. A big thank you to our amazing IT team for organising this donation and helping make a meaningful community impact.
