This bathroom had a big spa bath that barely got used taking up most of the room. Now it's got a walk-in shower, a proper 1650mm bath, AND a double vanity - all in the same footprint.

The old spa was hogging space that could have been working so much harder. So we pulled everything out and rethought the whole layout.

The shower used to have a hob (that little step you trip over every morning). We ripped that out and built a proper walk-in shower zone with a black twin shower head system. No step. No hassle. Just walk in and go.

Here's what went into this one:
Full strip-out of the spa bath, old vanity, shower, and toilet. New carpentry to build the walk-in shower zone. All new plumbing rough-in. Waterproofing done to Australian standards with certification. Nearly 18 square metres of tiling across floors, walls, and skirting. Custom fixed glass shower screen. New narrow bath, double vanity, modern toilet, and all new tapware fitted and tested.

One team handled every single part of it. Plumbing, carpentry, waterproofing, tiling, glass, painting, and fit-off. No coordinating trades yourself. No gaps. No finger-pointing.

That spa bath was taking up space. Now every corner of this bathroom earns its keep.

This homeowner swapped their old spa bath for a brand new walk-in shower - and they can't believe the difference it made to their bathroom.
Here's something worth knowing about spa baths...

Most of them barely get used. They take up a huge amount of floor space, they're hard to keep clean, and the plumbing underneath is usually the first thing to start causing problems.

Here's something that absolutely blows my mind: the Gold Coast has some of the fastest-growing housing developments in Australia, but there's ZERO regulatory oversight for stormwater drainage. 😳

Think about that for a second. Council will inspect your concrete slab, your frame, your roof, your electrical, your plumbing inside the house... but the one system that protects your entire foundation from water damage?

Nobody checks it. Not once.

I see the results of this every single week. New homes in estates around Pimpama, Coomera, and up through the northern corridor—beautiful houses, great finishes, everything looks perfect.

Then the first wet season hits and these homeowners are calling me in a panic because their backyards are underwater.

When we investigate, we find flexi pipe that's already collapsing, charged stormwater that has nowhere to drain, and foundations that are starting to shift because water's been sitting underneath for months.

The worst part is that most of these problems were there from day one of construction, which means insurance won't cover the repairs. What really frustrates me is that this is completely preventable.

"Can I dig the trenches myself to save money?" Yes—but only if you understand what you're signing up for.

A customer in Nerang asked me this. He wasn't trying to DIY everything (that would be a disaster). He just wanted to contribute his labour where it made sense.

His situation was perfect: long narrow side area with no machine access, 35-40 hours of hand-digging needed, he was a fit 32-year-old tradie, and the job wasn't urgent.

Our quote with hand-digging: $9,800.
Quote with him digging: $6,300.
Savings: $3,500.

I marked everything with spray paint, gave him detailed instructions on depth and width, and he got to work.

Three weeks later he called: "Done. This was WAY harder than I thought, but I'm proud of myself."

His trenches were actually really good.

We came in, laid all the pipes with proper fall, connected everything to stormwater, and he had fully functional drainage for $6,300 instead of $9,800.

He saved $3,500 but earned every dollar of it with sweat.

Here's when DIY trenching makes sense: difficult property access where we'd hand-dig anyway, you're physically fit with time to commit, and you understand it's genuinely hard work.

Here's when it doesn't: we can get a machine in easily (our machine digs in 3 hours what takes you 3 days).

And here's the critical rule: you can dig trenches, but NEVER do the pipe work yourself.

That must be done by licensed plumbers or your insurance won't cover any water damage.
