This simple light swap over will pay for itself after a year

This high rise apartment block I service in Coolangatta has all the community lighting running 24/7

Rather than just swapping the old light, I installed an oyster light with a built in sensor.
This will only activate the light for one minute when someone is actually in the area, greatly reducing its power usage as well as the lights life span.

Will your switchboard disconnect power before electrical shock occurs?

This switchboard had been almost untouched since 1982. Ceramic fuses and some circuit breakers were protecting all circuits within the apartment.

The current standards require a minimum of a safety switch on all power circuits. Any new circuit or a circuit that that is altered also needs to be installed with a safety switch. An alteration is when new cabling is added to the circuit - this could be for a new PowerPoint, light, air conditioner etc

What’s the difference between a circuit breaker and a safety switch?

-A circuit breaker prevents cabling and appliances by cutting off power when the level of current exceeds the cables operating limit (preventing fire).

-A safety switch does the above but also protects people from electric shock by detecting current leaks. It will disconnect power in milliseconds once detected (such as in the event of electric shock or a fault in an appliance)

Although not always legally required, it’s a great idea to upgrade every circuit immediately to ensure everyone in the household is protected in the event of a fault.

It’s been a busy first few months at the hottest new electrical & airconditioning company to hit the Gold Coast - Photon Electrical & Air!

Here we have a recent AC installation in an apartment in Coolangatta. One AC installed in the main bedroom and one in the living area.

Most other ACs installed in this building have had plastic ducting installed on the walls inside the apartment to hide the pipes and cabling to get them outside. But not at Photon!

I made the exterior hole in the exact location where they would land within the wall on the other side, meaning no plastic duct was needed inside for both units.

A few other nice features of this install:
-Both outdoor units positioned in a location that doesn’t impede the general use of the balcony
-A larger plastic capping used outside to conceal both pipes in a singular duct
-Individual isolation switches for each unit as required by law
-Outdoor units lifted on rubber feet to stop vibration and allow airflow below the unit which prevents corrosion
-Condensation drain run to the location of a future drain that will be installed by body corporate
-Refrigerant pipework tested before gassing. This is included in every quote at Photon. Not every company does this - it tests that the pipes are leak proof and the gas inside the unit will stay in there for years.
